Play it by Ear
“I seriously can’t believe he thinks you are my boyfriend.” Jimin scoffs sitting down beside Jungkook on the couch. Taehyung is perched on Kook’s lap, nosing at the younger boy’s nose fondly. Jimin munches on the chip noisily. He turns the volume up, and sings along with the idol.
“What the hell is it?” Jungkook asks indignantly at his brother’s antics.
“He thinks you’re my boyfriend!” Jimin says between a mouth stuffed with chips. Taehyung reaches for the chips, but gets swatted away.
“Ouch, and we’re still on that meow-meow of yours?” Taehyung pouts, rubbing his hand. Which gets him the whole pack, and soothing rubs up his sides. He smiles down at Kook. Jimin gags at them, deliberately making retching sounds.
“Sure, you’re not pregnant?” Jungkook asks, looking sideways.
“If anyone is pregnant it is Tae-Tae here,” Jimin says, opening the next packet. Taehyung flings a chip at the shortest.
“Just because your ass is dry like sand, doesn’t mean we have to be celibate,” he says.
“Oh Please! No one asked you to be celibate, just be quiet. Hobi-hyung and I have nightmares, after hearing those sounds.”
“So what’s up with Min?” Jungkook asks, plucking the new packet straight out of Jimin's fingers.
“The fucker asked, ‘your boyfriend got tired of you?’ like, I don’t even have a boyfriend, and that pointing at our photo on my desk! Seriously, Tae is in it as well. Besides, we look like idiotic morons trying to see sense in calculus,” Jimin tries to grab his chips back. Jungkook simply just keeps it out at the other side, or up, while Taehyung has his legs draped over Jimin’s thighs.
“Can’t blame the guy, I’m good looking.” Jimin scoffs, “Though never would go for you, shorty.”
“Get your head out of your ass, I’m the better-looking sibling here,” Jimin pushes off Tae’s legs and jumps up, taking the packet back.
“You overgrown mutt! How did you even finish it all within five minutes?” He shouts, staring into the empty packet.
Jungkook and Taehyung don’t even mind him as a person, less his shouting. Kook is busy sucking a hickey onto Tae, with the other holding onto the younger boy’s locks.
“Get a room you horny ass-holes,” Jimin says before storming into his room.
-
Jimin looks up at the ceiling, questioning his life choices once again. His bed is soft against his back, but too big for him. There is a stack of papers on his desk glaring at him. The table, scattered with notes for his lectures. The table lamp is harsh in its light. He turns on his tummy and looks out the window.
The moon is still half-hidden. Hiding away from some people, but still peeping out a bit. The stars are winking playfully. And he wonders how it will feel to have someone wink at him like that. Will he get flustered, like Tae does when Kook whispers something in his ear (most probably something dirty)?. Or will he be blushing like his sister when her husband kisses her cheek unexpectedly (despite years of receiving them)?
He flops back onto his back. And closes his eyes.
-
“Park, you’re late.” Min says standing at the door. A daily dose of Agust D’s sapience, free of charge, guaranteed for delivery, and totally infuriating. This is what Jimin gets every day before getting into his office. Out of all the people he had to have a room opposite to Min Agust D. The nation’s rap star, who somehow deems it necessary to work as a lecturer, albeit his royalties can pay him for five generations sitting on his ass still.
“Nice observation skills,” Jimin mumbled politely, looking like an honest worker as he bowed. Agust D scoffed.
“Don’t you have freshman year now?” And Jimin remembers why he was rushing, got his foot hit, and limped his way to his room. He curses under his breath, and heads to the assigned room after dumping his bag.
“That’s what happens when you don’t keep it in on Monday mornings!” Agust D calls behind him, as he limps all his way.
“Would be so much better if that was the case,” he mumbles to himself as he opens the door.
“Good morning class, let’s start with Sodium Chloride and…”
-
Jimin is working on reading a paper filled with nonsense, instead of organic chemistry, when the door pushes open.
“Minnie!” Taehyung hops in with Jungkook following. Taehyung places a paper meal bag on the table, and plops himself down on the bean bag Jimin has on the corner. Jungkook surprisingly sits on the chair instead of squishing in with Tae. Jimin ignores it, he is still angry with the muscle pig for finishing his vanilla cookies.
“Jiminie-Hyung!” Jungkook starts a whine from the top note of the scale, “I was just really hungry!”
Jimin still proceeds to decipher how superman relates to organic chemistry. Jungkook is rambling off about all the times he has done the laundry, picked up Jimin from drunk states, When the door is knocked.
Jimin glares at the younger two and clears his throat.
“Come in!”
Agust D opens the door, and peeks in. “Hey Park, I’m ab….Oh!” He pushes the door open the whole way, and steps in. He scans the men in the room and glances at Jimin.
“Why are you not at the meeting yet?” Jimin’s eyes bulge, he looks at the clock in panic. And puts away the paper in the allocated file.
“Oh my god, O no, no!” He scrambles around looking for the reports he has to discuss on.
“Should have thought of that before flirting at work. Don’t you have any work ethic or integrity?” Agust D asks in a cold voice.
Jungkook and Taehyung look at the pale man standing in the door frame, with their jaws slack, and then at Jimin, who’s now red as a tomato.
“One, I was not Flirting at work, I was grading papers with Supermans. Two, you have no right to question me when you literally fuck my students in your office.”
"Whatever, " Agust D said and left his room. Jimin, still raging in flames, got his stuff and followed to the meeting.
-
Yoongi was going back in a rush to his office to get his phone which he had forgotten in the fiasco of riling Park. His favorite hobby. It had to do with the younger twisting his lips into angry pouts, blushing beautiful shades of peach, pushing out words of profanities in a voice that would be perfect moaning under him. Yet, he couldn't simply ask Park to spend a night with him. The other was a proud man, and didn't accept any sort of nonsense.
Plus the fact that he had a boyfriend was simply infuriating, at the same time intriguing for Yoongi. Park's boyfriend seemed to be a bit on the younger side. And, Yoongi genuinely had thought Park would be into older guys, Don't ask why.
He was put into a pause when he heard a loud groan followed by a whine. He edged slowly towards the source, only to be surprised it was from Park's room. Did Park sneak out of the meeting to make out with his boyfriend?
The door was slightly ajar, Yoongi clearly didn't mean to look in, but the sight made him stumble.
There was Park's boyfriend pushing the other man against the wall, hands held above heads, pants at ankles and vigorously thrusting into the moaning man from behind. One would question if the man being fucked would be able to stand straight again.
"Fuck" Yoongi cursed stepping into his room. "I am a fuck boy, but I have values"
He took his phone, and headed out. He really wanted to tell Park of this. Even Park didn't deserve a cheating boyfriend. Who in their right minds would even dream of another man, when they had Park.
Park was halfway through the presentation when he stepped in. He was rewarded a glare for opening the door. He sat down and looked at the man in question.
Will he love to be tied down, or will he like to take control? Those legs would look lascivious around Yoongi’s waist. God what an ass, would look like art with his spanks painting it red.
Yoongi was used to daydreaming all the ways he could fuck the professor opposite his office. He was broken out of his reverie of dreaming, as an applause erupted. Yoongi was brought back to reality.
-
"Hey, Park!"
"What do you want, Min?" Jimin gritted out.
"Cool down, munchkin. Wouldn't want to whip out before hearing." Agust D said smirking, stepping a bit closer than usual.
"Just say it and go,"
"How about a cup of coffee, Hmm?" Jimin felt his skin set out trails of goosebumps down his arms, as he felt the older place a hand on the table he was picking his files from. Their fingers were millimetres away from brushing.
"Coffee? Is this some sort of prank, Min?" Jimin said, making an indignant face, and a raised brow.
"What? No!" Min said with a frown. "Can't I have coffee with a colleague?"
"Really?"
"Really," Jimin looked at the other and decided to give it a shot, following his gut feeling. And there was the fact that it has been really long since someone asked him to coffee, even for a friendly date.
"Fine,"
"OK?"
"Hmm," Jimin walked out. Only to be pulled by the elbow, and that made him collide against the wall. "What the..?"
"You just agreed, now you're walking away. What am I supposed to do, sit here like a doll?”
"You want to go now?"
"Why else would I ask?"
"Ugh."
-
They are at the cafe arguing about…
“Let’s just get take out and go, I’ve got work to do.”
“ You were the one who wanted this, at least do it properly,” Jimin says sitting on a table outside with an umbrella.
“Why would you deliberately submit your body to heat like this?” Min asks incredulously.
“Well, why do people have sex then?”
“That….. that’s a pleasure! ”
“Well this , is nice too,” Jimin calls over the waiter, and orders.
They sit in silence, Jimin tries to distract himself from the pallor man in front of him, glaring like he was about to state something of importance but doesn’t have the required attention to do so. The waiter returns, with their order.
“Thank you,” Min murmurs and takes the coffee off the tray, the waiter, a young boy, blushes at the gesture. Clearly a fan of Agust D.
“So, you do know common courtesy?” Jimin says mockingly.
“Can show it to people who have it as well.”
“Did… you call me indecent? You …”
“If the hat fits,” Min shrugs.
Jimin is about to say something when he is interrupted.
“Your boyfriend is cheating on you, with your best friend.”
“What?!…” Jimin looks jaw slacked, and is about to call someone to take Min to the loony bin when it strikes. Oh no! Min Saw those two...wait! Those two horny shits! Seriously, in my office!
“I saw them, when I went back,” Min is serious, and has a concerned look. “I..don’t know… Are you OK?” Jimin is concerned about Agust D now.
“Umm, yeah..” Jimin slaps himself mentally. You fool, you just got cheated! You’re agreeing!
“What?! Why would I believe a nameless person on something like this?” Jimin tries his best to make himself believable. He’s not the drama major for heaven’s sake, that’s Taehyung!
“Well, I’m not asking you to believe me or not. That’s totally up to you. I’m simply relaying information and gauging whether you’re okay with it.”
Why did Min have to be so diplomatic? It would be easier to shout at a person who doesn’t talk sense and simply spreads rumours.
“OK…” Jimin is now seriously confused on how to act, thankfully his phone blares, vibrating in his pocket.
“I’ve gotta go and take this!” And Jimin sprints out of his chair, picking up his mom’s call.
-
Jimin has been playing hide and seek with Min for a month now. Only if his two horny dongsaengs hadn’t been desperate to play hide the zucchini, he would be spewing shit back at Min, instead of coming to work early and going home late, as to not let the rapper know.
Jimin peeks through his door. The corridor is dark, and the room opposite him is locked. He steps out heaving a heavy sigh, and turns to lock his door.
“You know, your spy skills are the worst,” says a raspy voice behind him. Jimin lets out a Fuck. He didn’t need a point out to his hiding skills from the one he was hiding from.
“I know you’re weathering a break-up, and I won’t make fun of you, like this. No need to hide, so pathetically.” Min says. Jimin really wants to shout into his face, the truth, that he has never had a boyfriend, that he has never known how it will feel to be dumped, that it hurts to yearn for something he’ll never have.
And tears swell, fat, and shiny out onto his lashes. He has been refused one too many times after coffee, has been said to be not ‘boyfriend’ material by women, has been joked as ‘commitment type’ by men, and he has had enough of the lame excuses for not turning up to dates as he sits on a bench freezing his fingers or sweating his blood for hours. Now, here he is being given sympathies for a break-up he never even had. Will he always be like this? Does it mean he’ll never have someone?
The tears are now splattering like rain on a leaf, shaking him by the shoulders, wetting the front of the shirt, growing through the threads to more of the cloth, residing as a patch above his heart.
“Hey,” Yoongi is terrified of the shivering Park, the boy looks so fragile. Yoongi doesn’t know why but he feels the need to take the chemistry professor in his arms. Well, Yoongi is a person who lives by his guts, rather than social chains, so he does what he wants to. Park is pliant, a mess of tears, sounds of misery grunting out of his small body. Yoongi reaches for the boy’s hands. The fingers are so tiny, fitting in his palm like a lotus. The boy is so soft, Yoongi is left to wonder why anyone would want to hurt this wingless Angel.
“Let it all out,” Yoongi says, turning the boy in his arms, and sliding down the wall. It’s worth it, taking out the misery in someone is worth sacrificing his ideals of physical intolerance. Jimin calms down in the embrace he provides, Yoongi doesn’t know why, but the fact of the younger being upset doesn’t sit well with him.
-
Yoongi takes it upon himself to be diligent in noting his colleague across from him. The younger, as Yoongi comes to realize, is an angel living among humans. Park Jimin accomplished his achievements at a very young age. Park Jimin does not appreciate his students being ignorant, yet doesn’t vent out the frustration it creates on others as well. The younger always smiles at the janitor, and asks the cafeteria lady about her son. The sass in his personality may be the only quirk to define him human, which Yoongi is coming to attribute as an angelic quality, followed by the argument, ‘wit is a weapon of war of balance.’
And maybe his friends are not so happy about his epics on Park Jimin: The humane Angel.
“OK, Hyung! I get it! Please could you maybe stop waxing poetry about Angels? I’m trying to put down abstraction in words!”
Jin hyung chuckles from the kitchen. Joon exasperatedly gets up to come into the kitchen, only to be met with a knife pressing into his sternum. Jin raises an eyebrow in challenge, and dips his head in the direction of the dining table. Joon with a blush coating his dimples in the sheepish smile steps out of the kitchen.
Yoongi simply scoffs at the exchange, and continues to cry over onions.
“He’s just so…..pure!” Yoongi waves the knife mid-air, trying to bring insentient to life. “How could someone think of cheating on him?” Yoongi asks. He has not gotten over the fact of Park Jimin being cheated upon, which is questionable as even the victim himself has become the bubbly little puppy he is. And it did not escape Yoongi’s observations, that the frame was still on the desk, and the witty whiplashes still passed over the phone conversations across the corridor.
“Well, Great Min Suga, why don’t you simply ask this Angel out, already?” Jin asks over the sizzling.
“I..he just had…”
“Oh stop with that ‘break up’, hyung. It doesn’t even seem like he’s offended by it. You’re just being the scaredy-cat you are.” The youngest of the three says, rolling his eyes as he sets the table and pulls out a wine bottle.
Yoongi sputters at that, and feels his neck heat up in embarrassment.
