Work Text:

the distant shine of starlight, intermingling breaths; slow, quiet.

shouto has his eyes closed, lying on the pillow while he faces katsuki.

and katsuki can do nothing but stare: his own head next to shouto’s, foreheads almost touching, their breaths shared in the little space in between the two of them. it’s only a bare few millimetres, but to katsuki, it’s not unlike the feeling of being in the orbit of a wondrous planet一 like a wandering star, looking upon the rings of saturn.

shouto’s eyes blink open slowly, moonlight catching in the hues of ice and steel, gentle beams of alabaster cast on the perfect marble sculpt of shouto’s face.

he loves shouto, but katsuki can’t help but think this is his favourite sight, his favourite version of his boyfriend. sleepy eyed with a softness to his face, a vulnerability reserved just for him.

“what would you do,” katsuki finds the words spilling out of his mouth before he can stop them, before he can even think. “what would you do in a world without me?”

shouto shifts, hair falling daintily over his forehead as he breathes slow, and katsuki can feel the barest touch of his breath ghosting over his lips.

(the universe must have loved you so dearly, he thinks, to have placed the whole universe in your eyes.

and how lucky i am, to have the universe in my reach一 you, here, in my arms.)

shouto raises his hand to trail his fingers through katsuki’s blonde hair, hand following the slope of his face to cup his cheek. he leans in to press his forehead to katsuki’s, closing the gap between them. the universe shrinks, and the planet leans in closer to the star’s embrace.

“i will look for you in every corner of the world, until we meet again,” shouto smiles, a soft, barely-there thing that tugs at the strings of katsuki’s heart. he speaks like it’s the most obvious thing in the world, like it’s the simplest truth to understand, “i wouldn’t live in a world without you.”

there is the distant sound of a passing car, and the world outside them goes on一 but this moment between the two of them is sacred, quiet.

and nothing else matters, katsuki thinks again, eyes slipping closed as he feels the brush of shouto’s thumb under his eye, a gentle touch with promises within.

(i come home to you, and you come to me一 and for a split second, every hardship i ever endured has meaning.)
