Ripples Reach Far

Summary:

One little boy has a quirk that changes everything. A point or two where the timeline was shifted just a tad.

That's when everything changes - family bonds are twisted, torn, and created. Mentors rise and fall. The power balance shifts, tips, maybe even falls.

This isn't a world where it all goes right. This isn't a world where it all goes wrong. But it isn't the same.

(On a temporary break while I build up a chapter buffer.)

Notes:

The butterfly affect meets very unlikely parents and mentors AU.

Chapter 1: Prologue: Not The First Thrown Stone

Summary:

Impatience churns the water.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

.: Prologue: Not The First Thrown Stone :.

“Ah yes. Watch his vitals, Shuzenji.”

Kyuudai watched as the woman turned her attention to the monitor off to the side of the room. He was glad that she had accepted his request for an internship of sorts. His credentials as ‘Dr. Tsubasa’ were glowing, and her healing knowledge would help him with treating his own patients.

Those were the perceptions he had crafted — in truth, this was all for Master. Everything was for Master. If he could bring ‘Recovery Girl’ to their side, or even arrange for her quirk to be stolen, it would be a large boon to the Noumu project, not to mention how useful her knowledge could be…

He shook himself from his thoughts, focusing his equipment on Midoriya Izuku, eventually finding what he had suspected.

Plus alpha — the 'quirk factor' as it was often known.

As he continued to study them, he realized that this was surely a quirk Master would appreciate. A quirk that could control quirks! Meta quirks such as this were rare, and often rather powerful - Master’s quirk was itself of the Meta type after all.

Now, if he had stopped to think — let go of his pride, he would have waited for Master to take the quirk. Schedule a follow-up appointment, and the man could easily acquire it with no one the wiser.

But Kyuudai was so excited at the prospect of pleasing Master that he quickly grabbed the device he had been working on.

He asked the young boy to stay ‘really still so the machine would work,’ wrapping what looked like blood-pressure monitors around his wrists.

After double-checking all the wires and settings, he flipped the switch for his device, a low electric hum filling the room.

The boy started to twitch, the small sounds catching Shuzenji’s attention.

“Dr. Tsubasa, just what are you doing? This doesn’t look—”

The woman never got to finish her sentence, cut off by the device letting out a long, high-pitched whine.

Suddenly red tendrils exploded from the boy’s body, pushing their way through cracks and crevices. Unbeknownst to the two medical professionals, they then fastened to several people in the waiting area, quirks activating without their will.

This wouldn’t have been as much of a problem, if one individual hadn’t had a remote detonation quirk.

He was at the clinic with his five-year-old son to have his quirk assessed. He had been working on setting up an old building for demolition for the Uraraka Construction company, when his wife called. She was taking their son to Dr. Tsubasa’s clinic, but had to go back to work as she had forgotten her purse, and so had asked him to take their son instead.

When his quirk was forcibly activated, the results were tragic.

Mr. and Mrs. Uraraka had been doing last minute inspections on the building. They were pronounced dead on arrival.

Some of the rubble from the demolition site had been blown out into the street due to not having been properly triggered. While Kirishima Eijirou had survived, his newly found quirk protecting him from the debris, his parents were not so lucky, despite Eijiriou’s efforts to protect them.

A girl with blond hair, and gleaming fangs stared in astonishment as a black-haired boy knocked her out of the way of falling concrete, saving her.

An older man with grey hair, and equally grey ties lay motionless. He had been in the area attempting to do some manner of business, but never arrived. He left behind his daughter, among many others.

A stone causes ripples when it hits the water. Where will these disturbances lead?

Notes:

So the idea of Izuku with Forcible Quirk Activation, unlikely parents, and uncle Aizawa just all merged into this, and I've been working on it bit by bit. It's a bit more serious than what I normally write, which is somewhat of a necessity with what happens. The next chapter (which should be uploaded already) is a bit lighter though.

Now, a big thanks to AntiqueOwl for helping brainstorm a large part of the story, and beta-reading, along with YaBoyGuzma, whose thoughts and fic - 'Incident Zero' inspired parts of this story. Please go and check both of them out; they're awesome!
