Summary
The Celestial Cathedral was one he’d only ever seen photos of. The architecture was grand and sweeping and elaborate, all pointed arches and carved columns and flying buttresses. Its spires stretched high into the sky. Bursts of color in indistinct stained-glass windows dotted the massive building.
Thousands of humans and drones alike gathered here to worship their goddess. N had never been one of them.
J called it a freaky cult. Seeing the celebrations filling the streets for blocks in every direction around it, N was inclined to agree. These people were already celebrating his death.
(or, every year, a drone is sacrificed to the Absolute Solver. this year, it's N)

Summary
Nori crashed to the ground hard enough to make her vision glitch wildly. She barely had time to move before the monster had pounced on her, fanged grin split gruesomely wide. Its tail flicked up, and a scream was punched from her voice box as its syringe pierced through her torso.
The burning sting of its nanite acid was immediate and all-consuming. Her voice went choppy as her system overloaded from the pain.
(or, Nori gets attacked by a murder drone and it goes exactly as you'd expect—until it doesn't)

Summary
He found himself pinned in place by the dozen eyes protruding like cameras from Cyn’s body. His voice box seized, rendering him mute.
“Hello, N,” Cyn said. “I have scared you.”
He nodded minutely.
All those appendages sort of… sagged. “My apologies. I suppose it could not be helped. But I hope you know I would not hurt you.”
He’d known that about fifteen minutes ago. But there were a lot of things N thought he knew that were really being called into question right now.
