Work Text:
Luz had never been kissed in the rain before. It was always such a romantic thing in the movies she'd seen, and a few of the books that Hunter had apparently read after they made their way to the Boiling Isles, but she'd never thought she'd get to try it herself. Neither had he, he had said a moment ago, for obvious reasons.
A part of her in the back of her mind was afraid this was all a dream. That she would wake up in Eda's storage room, still stuck in the Isles with no real way home. The Isles had been a dream come true for Luz, but it had also taught her the hard way that what happened in fantasy wasn't always so great in reality. Her first real lesson on that had come her very first day as Eda's apprentice, when that wizard tricked her with her most beloved fantasies.
But this was real. And maybe it was less because the movies and books were right, and more so because of them and now, but this was just as romantic as she'd always thought it would be.
Hunter had leaned down to press his lips to hers. His gloved hands rested on her hips, holding them close to his, and his open cloak draped over her shoulders. The light balls she had cast to help them see in the dark of the stormy, Gravesfield woods glowed heavenly around them. They specifically gave Hunter, with his dorky tooth gap and amazed smile, an angelic look. Perhaps that last part was only Luz's imagination, but hey, she wasn't complaining.
When they had first crossed the portal to the human world, he had been mesmerized by the weather. It soaked his hair until the white-blonde turned black and matted against his skull, but Hunter hadn't cared. He raised his chin to the sky, and lifted one gloved hand to catch the rapidly falling droplets. The cold water fell on his face and dripped down his cheeks, sideburns, and jaw. All he could say in response, quietly astonished, was wow.
Luz had smiled fondly at his reaction. For at least a little while, gone was the sad but bad boy she knew, taking all his sarcasm and insecurities with him. What was left was only a boy, utterly fascinated by something as simple yet delightful as the rain. Because here, it didn't hurt him. The rain no longer hurt Hunter. (Nothing ever would again, she'd ensure.)
Then he'd turned to her with a cheeky grin, and told her about the romance novels he'd read. Luz had been cowering from the weather beneath the boxed up portal up 'til then, when he'd asked her to try what he'd read out. Her heart just about beat out of her chest at that.
But of course she'd agreed, and gently set the portal down not too far from their feet.
Luz's hands had gone to his broader shoulders, folding themselves beneath his cloak as it draped over her. She wasn't yet as soaked as he was, but the rain drenched her pretty quickly. Hunter had chuckled at how fast she got wet and consequently winced from the cold - cold, not boiling (she was home, at last) - and brought her hips to his. That was when he'd kissed her.
The kiss was sweet. It was soft, warm, and so completely captivating that Luz had forgotten everything else for a second. Everything from the rain to all that had happened to her over her summer break. The only things that were, were Hunter and her. That was it. And even as everything else came back once the second passed, her grip on Hunter could only tighten. Because this was exactly what she wanted right now.
Another part of her in the back of her head said she wanted it forever.
Hunter pulled the smallest bit away to tilt his head and press back in. Luz sighed against the new angle. She removed her hands from his cloak and wrapped them behind his neck.
Something told her that neither of them were going to stop any time soon. They'd have to, or else they'd be sick in the morning, but for whatever reason (she knew why) Luz couldn't bring herself to care.
That was all right. She liked kissing Hunter in the rain. It was the best thing to happen to her yet all night. She'd indulge it for however long he would let her.
Distantly, Luz wondered if she was falling in love with this boy.
