Work Text:
Sherlock and his husband, Blake needed to get out of the house for a bit. And what a great way to do so than taking a trip to the park to relax and check out the scenery. So far, it was been relaxing for the two of them. Blake and Sherlock watched as the people walked by the bench that they were sitting on in the park. Blake saw a baby being swung in a swing by their mother or their babysitter. The baby was happy and having so much fun while being in the swing, too. It put a smile on Blake's face and also made him suddenly have a thought in his head.
Blake thought about him and Sherlock having a child together. It made him feel ever more happy. Yet...he was not sure how Sherlock feels about that and Blake decided to go for it and ask him about it. Right then and there at the park.
He turned his head to look at his husband.
"Sherlock, dear?" Blake suddenly piped up. Sherlock did not turn his head but he did hear his husband's voice.
"Yes?" Sherlock spoke back to him. Blake hesitated for a couple seconds before he spoke again.
"How..how do you feel about if we added a baby to our family?" Blake asked him. This time, Sherlock looked at his husband.
"A baby?" Sherlock asked back, trying to get Blake to explain more.
"Or an older child but yes. How would you feel about that? Having and raising a child together?" Blake replied to Sherlock's question and asked another one, still sticking to the subject. Sherlock has not really thought about this but...it is not that he has not thought about it before.
"I am not sure if I am ready for a child yet but yet..I have thought about it on and off for a while now." Sherlock answered.
"You have?" Blake asked a different question this time. Sherlock nodded his head.
"Yes. I mean, not as much as you may think I have but I have thought about this on and off for quite some time. Still, I am not sure if I want a child or a baby but...I am not getting any younger either." Sherlock explained to his husband.
"And it is okay to feel that way, hun. But..if you want a child or a baby, either one, just tell me. I always wanted a family but..I just never knew it was possible because of me being gay." Blake told him.
"Would you want to adopt a child/baby or have a surrogate when to comes to having a baby?" Sherlock asked, feeling curious.
"Honestly, I rather adopt one than have a surrogate. I have nothing against surrogates but there are so many children out there in this world that need loving homes with parents that will give unconditional love and support already, Plus, adopting a child just feels so right to me more than anything. Do you agree or would you want to do something else?" Blake replied and asked a question back.
"I actually feel the same way. I think adoption would be a much better choice. For me, a child does not have to be my blood to be my and/or our child. Well...that is least how I feel about it." Sherlock answered.
"I feel that way, too." Blake said back. Sherlock had an idea.
"Even if we do not adopt right away...would you like to go ahead and fill out the paperwork and such so when the time comes, we will be ready to bring a child into our life?" Sherlock suddenly suggested. Blake liked the sound of that suggestion.
"I think that is a great idea. I have a friend that could contact someone in order to help up with the process of this. I also have an aunt that I could talk to who has adopted a child before, too, so we can understand what we have to do as well. Getting some help is better than no help at all." Blake also suggested.
"I agree." Sherlock spoke. Sherlock was still not exactly ready for a child just yet but at least they can do research and such before making an actual decision on this. Blake suddenly held one of Sherlock's hands in his.
"So, what do you say? Would you like to start the process to have a family with me?" Blake asked with a smile on his face. Sherlock held his husband's hand tighter in his as he smiled back at him.
"I would love that." Sherlock happily replied. Blake felt so excited. He gave Sherlock a kiss on the cheek.
"Like I said, whenever you are ready, just let me know." Blake told him.
"I will, dear. I will." Sherlock said back. The two of them stayed in the park for a little while longer before deciding to head home and began research on adopting a child. It should not be much longer before Sherlock makes his decision on this but whatever decision he chooses, this was going to life changing for the both of them. And hopefully, a happy one.
The End
