Work Text:
Sherlock and his husband, Blake were spending the weekend in London and visiting John. Blake was finishing getting ready to head out to go pick up food that they ordered for tonight's dinner.
"Do either of you need anything else while I am out?" Blake asked both John and Sherlock.
"Not that I can think of." John replied to Blake's question.
"I can not think of anything either but thank you, dear." Sherlock also replied to Blake as well. Blake smiled at both of them then nodded.
"I will not try to be too long but if you think of anything, do not be afraid to text me." Blake told them. Sherlock and John nodded back. Blake gave Sherlock a kiss on the lips.
"I love you, Sherlock." Blake told his husband.
"I lover you, too." Sherlock said back to Blake. Blake stood back up and then a couple of minutes later headed out of John's apartment and onto the streets of London. When the closed behind Blake, Sherlock and John looked at one another.
"How is everything going with you and Blake?" John suddenly asked since he was alone with Sherlock.
"It has been going pretty well." Sherlock replied.
"That's wonderful. I am so glad for both of you." John said with a smile on his face. Since Blake was not in the house right now, Sherlock felt like that it would be a good time to talk about what Blake and him have been talking about to get John's opinion on it. He was nervous but he truly wanted his best friend's opinion right now.
"What do you think if Blake and I bringing a child into our home?" Sherlock suddenly asked John. John did not expect this be said by his best friend. Not at all.
"Where did this suddenly come from?" John asked a question back, feeling curious for why Sherlock brought this up.
"Blake and I have been thinking about adopting a child. Well...Blake is all for it. As far as I think about it, I am not sure." Sherlock replied.
"And you are hesitant for what exact reason?" John asked. Sherlock took a deep breath before he spoke again to John.
"Yes. I am very hesitant about it. I think Blake would truly be an amazing father! Me, on the other hand...I feel like I would be a terrible one since I do not have much personal experience with children. And considering my reputation and all..adopting a child and such may be more difficult for us because of that. And not to mention, raising a child is going to be a huge responsibility." Sherlock answered John's new question. That was true. Sherlock is not known exactly known to be around kids much...unless there was a case to solve. Though, Sherlock COULD be a great parent! People just never really give Sherlock a chance to show them anything that is not what is "normal" for Sherlock.
"Honestly..honestly, I think both you and Blake would be great parents!" John exclaimed with a smile on his face, too. Sherlock's eyes widened.
"You...you really think so?" Sherlock asked. John nodded.
"Yes. I really think that about both of you. Have you and Blake spoke about this more than once, I assume?" John answered and asked.
"We have talked about it a few times. More recently, though." Sherlock replied.
"I see. Well, if you both want a child, then I say start the process of adoption as soon as possible. But only do this if you both truly want to bring a child into your home and raise them." John told him. Sherlock agreed. Even though, there are single parents out there, this is something that if they are a couple, both persons should do this if both of them are wanting to do so.
"I am not against having a child or anything, please do not get me wrong but..this is something that is new to me. Yet..I think it would be really nice to have a child in Blake and I's lives." Sherlock said. It seems that Sherlock was finally making up his mind on this. Just imagining having a child with Blake put a smile on his face. And John could see this.
"I see that you may be reconsidering you hesitation on this matter." John said. Sherlock nodded, still smiling.
"I guess I am. I think I just needed to talk to someone about it. In a way, it has helped quite a lot. I am going to talk to Blake about it after we get back to our home after the weekend but...I think I am truly ready to bring a child into our home." Sherlock said back. John smiled as well.
"And you know, if you both need a babysitter, Uncle John only a phone call away." John offered. Sherlock chuckled. Things are starting to become less stressful for Sherlock about this. The only thing now that Blake and Sherlock have to do is file papers and such to start the adoption process and see if they are going to be fit parents to raise a child. Hopefully...it will work in their favor.
"By the way, thank you for helping me figuring all of this out, John. I just needed to talk to someone about this that wasn't Blake. Just to see what they thought about all of this." Sherlock also said to his best friend. It felt nice to be able to talk to someone about things like this. Sherlock thinks of John like family more than just a friend, too.
"You are welcome! And you know that I am always here fro you and Blake, no matter what." John told him. That meant a lot to Sherlock. And Blake as well. All of sudden, Sherlock's phone dinged. He took it out of one of his pants pockets to look at the screen. It was a text from Blake saying that he was on his way back to the flat. Sherlock looked back up at John.
"Blake is on his way back. Please, do not tell him what we talked about. I do not think he would be against me talking about it with you but just in case, I rather tell him that I spoke to you about it." Sherlock said. John nodded.
"I understand. My lips are sealed." John said back to Sherlock.
"Thanks." Sherlock spoke.
"No problem." John spoke back. John decided to go make some tea before Blake got back. Sherlock kept seated, waiting for Blake to return back to the flat. With a smile on his face. Now, that Sherlock feels more confident about bringing a child into their home, all he needs to do is speak with his husband about his decision and then they will start the adoption process. A few minutes later, the door to the flat opened and Blake stepped into the flat with the order of food that he went to pick up and another bag in tow. The bag was not from the place where they ordered the food either.
"Hey, darling! Sorry I took a little longer than I planned. I also decided to buy a small cake for all of us as well." Blake spoke to Sherlock.
"No worries, hun. Plus, it was not too long. I am very glad that you are back, though." Sherlock said back to his husband. Blake walked over to Sherlock and leaned down to give him a kiss on the lips before standing back up again. Blake noticed that John was not in the room with Sherlock.
"Where's John?" Blake suddenly asked.
"I am in the kitchen, Blake." John answered after his name being brought up. Blake looked in that direction.
"Where do you want me to put the food?" Blake asked him.
"On the table in here." John replied. Sherlock got up from the chair as he followed Blake into the kitchen behind him and help him with the bags of food. Later at dinner as the three of them ate, Sherlock was thinking about him and Blake having a child again. And again, it put a smile on Sherlock's face. Without even realizing it, Sherlock let out a happy chuckle while still being in his thoughts. Blake looked at his husband.
"Are you okay?" Blake suddenly asked him. Sherlock snapped out of it when he heard Blake speaking to him. Sherlock noticed that both his husband and John were looking at him. Sherlock blushed but he did not stop smiling at all.
"Everything is fine." Sherlock replied. Blake gave Sherlock a kiss on the cheek and all three of them went back to eating dinner. He knew that Blake would be very happy about bringing a baby into their home but...will the people of England be okay with Sherlock Holmes raising a child? Until then, only time will tell if everything and everyone was going to be okay.
The End
