The judge's deep, emotionless voice sounded like a drumbeat in the hearts of the twelve women sitting in the dock in the small Charlottetown courthouse.
They had been caught after an attempted coup d'état when the politics of restricting women's rights and explaining Indian camps was raging in the country.
Anne knew that signing this act of rebellion risked defeat and that adding her name to the paper in large letters could cost her her life. But death was a risk to freedom and knights, warriors, are never afraid to fight for their beliefs and ideals.
