Work Text:
It was silent upstairs. Everyone was gone except Kim. She couldn't bring herself to leave.
She was mourning another partner, no he didn't die. He left, she didn't see that he was struggling. She knew she should have been a better partner, the kind Antonio deserves.
When Hank made her erase his name off the board she almost cried. This wasn't her first time, but this one seemed to hurt the most. Yea she loved AL but he wasn't a great partner and she knew she couldn't save or help him, that all fell on Voight.
Her and Antonio were no Jay and any of his partners. They did get each other trusted each other even. He was the best partner she had that wasn't Kevin.
He was good partner to her, but she wasn't to him. That's what really hurt her. He was right there and she didn't even know what the man was going through.
The thought of AL being disappointed in her is what really broke her. She let out a loud sob, as fresh stairs rolled down her face.
She was bad luck. Her last three partners were gone and she could have prevented two of them. She could have paid attention instead of flirting. With Antonio she should have saw the signs she didn't know how she missed him.
Maybe she could convince Stone to we trial her. She didn't deserve to be a cop. Cops protect there family and she didn't not even Nicole.
Sobs and sad little whimpers feels the bulletin room. As Kim had a breakdown at her desk. Tears were leaking on her paperwork, but she could care less.
Unlucky for Kim someone was coming up the stairs. Jay heard the crys coming from the unit. He left some paperwork he was gonna do at home. That was until he heard the cry.
Why did this have to happen to her? What did she do wrong to deserve this?
The gate/door thing up stairs opened. Kim trys to stop crying, but fails. Kim turns looking at Jay. Dry and wet tears running down her face.
"Oh Kim." Jay softly walking up to Kim.
She drys her face her face with her sleeve. She seemingly okay. That made Jay feel better.
"Are you okay, Kim?" Jay asks so kindly.
Those four words had Kim breaking down again. She wasn't okay by a long shot. She can't explain why, she feels like such a failure but she does she misses her partner.
"N-no." Kim voice breaks.
Jay opens his arms out for if Kim needed it. She did she stood up and buried her face in his chest. He wraps his arms around her, and she follows.
She crys into his chest, as he places his head on top of hers. They just stand there I'm each others arms.
He was giving her the comfort she needed.
"What happened?" Jay asks against Kims head. As soon as her sobs go down.
"I didn't notice he was drowning until it was to late." Kim whispers.
It wasn't Kims fault. Jay needed her to know that. If believed that it was gonna kill her.
"Kim, it wasn't your fault." He trys.
She chokes. More tears rolling down her face. "I could have helped." Kim crys out.
"No, Kim with addiction its really a takes one to know one. They can hide it" Jay soothes.
Kim finally pulls away but not leaving much distance between the two. "Jay Halstead thank you" She smiles looking up with dry eyes.
He smiles at her glad she stopped crying. They closed the distance between themselves once again, but this time it wasn't for a hug but a kiss.
