“You idiot!” The raven-haired young woman yelled as she repeatedly pounded on Phoenix’s chest. Phoenix did nothing but look down, solemn. Though Maya’s words were harsh, Phoenix knew she wasn’t really mad at him.
“You idiot! Were you even thinking?” Maya screamed into his suit, her fingers digging in. Phoenix could hear her voice crack.
“I-I…” Maya started, her voice quavering and tears welling up in her eyes, “I-I can’t believe you would-” She couldn’t get the last part out before she burst in tears. Maya clung to Phoenix tightly as she wept, and at the slightest movement, only clung tighter.
Phoenix didn’t dare protest the newly damp spot in his suit. Instead, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into an equally tight embrace.
They stayed like this for hours, ignoring a certain pretzel who was grinning from ear to ear.
