Summary
The Dojima Family’s crest was still emblazoned on her back and arms and on either side of her chest: five reminders of a man dead and a family gone, a collection of discomfiting signs on which the other patriarchs refused to let their eyes dwell too long. Yayoi reached up to press her fingers against the crest by her left elbow. “Should I have these replaced with Kazama’s, do you think?” she asked him, unable to disguise the bitterness in her voice.
Kashiwagi paused in the middle of re-tying his tie. “It’s not like that,” he replied. “You know it’s not, Yayoi. Sera’s the one who put him in charge. Kazama wouldn’t—”
“Do you know that?” she interrupted him.
“I do.” He flicked his eyes down to stare at the knot of his tie as he finished it off, then twisted around again and wrapped Yayoi in his arms, holding her close, hiding his expression from further scrutiny.
