Midnight Habits

Work Text:

“Can I tell you something?” L whispers, tightening his hold around Light’s torso. 

“If I say no, will you continue anyway?” A sleepy, annoyed expression crosses Light’s face but L can’t see it when they’re laying side by side like this. 

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

 

“I like your veins.” He slips his thumb over the center of Light’s wrist and gently presses into his skin, “I like when I can see them.”

 

“... Are you going to ask to drink my blood?”

 

“No. Maybe. Not now.”

 

“Okay.” Light turns over to meet his lover face-to-face. He tries to hide his fondness, knowing that if L sees it, he’ll certainly make these late night talks a habit, but he can’t help it when L says such sweet things. “I like your bones,” he confesses, reaching out to stroke L’s sharp cheekbones, “they make you look so human.” 

 

“You have bones too,” L points out, leaning into the touch, “doesn’t that mean something?”

 

“I’m not a malnourished prick.” Despite his harsh words, he’s careful around L’s edges, running his hand down his jaw to brush over his pulse, savoring the steady beat. “Yours are so visible, like they want to escape your body.”

 

“Do you want my bones?”

 

“Yes. I think I already own them in a sense.”

 

“I don’t belong to you.” 

 

“You’ve always belonged to me,” Light leans in and kisses the tip of his nose, “but I belong to you too.”

 

L nods, chasing Light’s lips as he pulls away. “Do you hate that, Kira?”

 

“Not as much as you think, Lawliet.”

 

L snorts and settles back down into his spot on the bed. Light does the same but he throws his arm across L’s skinny frame and lays his head on his chest. 

 

There’s a solid minute of peaceful silence before L pipes up with, “if you take my last name, you can’t keep calling me that.”

 

“You’re insufferable,” Light claims, laughing tiredly, “go to sleep.”

 

“Goodnight, Light.”

 

“Goodnight, L.”
