Prompt 4: Mutual Pining

Summary:

My take on the fourth prompt of Bigbad-Tardis’s DoctorRose fic marathon. The Doctor and Rose get lost in their own thoughts while attending a gala.

Prompt 4: Mutual pining

The Doctor and Rose are known for being two idiots in love pining over each other. Give us a moment we haven’t seen before.

Work Text:

The Doctor swore inwardly, he was never ever taking her to a gala again! Not because she didn’t know how to behave, she was all charm as she talked to the ambassador of Tock-o-Nor. No, it was that impossible dress that she decided to wear while being that charming.

That dress that accentuated her breasts in such a lovely way. That dress that split so seductively, showing just enough leg. That dress that had him moaning over her as if he were some randy… human.

And what bothered him even more was that the ambassador noticed her charm as well and that the only way she could think off to ward of his avances was to link her arm with him and let the whole room believe that she was his… if only.

But he couldn’t let himself become too attached to her, it just wouldn’t do. He would not be responsible for the consequences if he were to lose someone else. He had lost too much already.

But oh how much he wanted to be able to slip that dress of her shoulders tonight and kiss her and show her just how much he wanted her. Just how much she was truly his, not just as some decoy. To kiss that lip that she was always biting on. To show her stars as she had never seen them before. He was sure that neither of her previous lovers were able to do just that.

He wanted to make her feel the way he saw her. As the most beautiful woman on the universe both inside and out. But that was exactly why he couldn’t have her. She was young, so young and so innocent and so capable of loving and caring. He didn’t want to corrupt that.

As he was so lost in his own thoughts he missed almost everything the ambassador was telling them. He was sure it wasn’t that important and if it was than Rose would fill him in later.

Rose however was just as distracted as he was. Had been since she came into the console room and saw that body of his fitted in a tux. He might lack in the Spock department but he sure made up for it in the Bond department.

However as things stood he turned out to be the only man in the room tonight who wasn’t hitting on her. Things were getting so bad in fact that instead of wasting anymore energy telling them off she just took the Doctor’s arm and pretended to be his.

But the combination of both the charade, the tux and the close proximity were proving to be too much for her. Did he have to smell so nice? She really wanted things to be real. To be really his so she could start fantasizing about what she would do to him later when that tux was going off.

Something told her that 900 years experience in the dancing department would certainly not dissapoint her and as her thoughts took a turn she could almost feel his lips touching her, his fingers stroking her. Oh how she loved that man. But he was an almighty alien and she just a mere little human. It would never happen.

“So you both agree? You want to do this small favor to me?” The ambassador asked them, oblivious to their thoughts which included quite vivid images of the other person.

They both nodded their heads in agreement. “Splendid! Splendid! I knew I could count on you Doctor, you and your charming partner.” He grabbed Rose’s hand and kissed it goodbye. “I’ll send my people over to you in a bit to work out the agreement.” And with that he left, leaving the Doctor and Rose behind.

“What is it that we just agreed to?”
