The get-together that they had a few days after Derek's actually birthday, to celebrate Derek’s birthday with everyone else, turned out a little bit funnier than anyone expected. Derek and Peter ended up getting a little tipsy, while the teens were drinking sparkling water.
Derek looked over at Stiles, his eyes a little shiny.
“Hey baby, are you having fun?” Stiles asked, amused.
“How are you real?”
Stiles chuckled, leaning forward.
“Actually, I’m not, you imagined me just now, in your slightly tipsy state.”
Derek’s eyes got wet and he looked away from Stiles’ face.
“Babe, what’s…” Stiles started to say, startled by the tears.
“I knew it. Only I could create someone as irritating and handsome as you to be with me.”
Stiles groaned, reaching over to cup his face.
“Why did I think that falling in love with you was a good idea?
Derek went from teary-eyed to laughing really quick.
“You two are disgusting and I am sick of looking at it,” Erica said, glaring at them.
“Excuse me Erica, but I am having a very important conversation with the love of my life and I need you to be quiet,” Derek said.
The entire pack groaned at the statement, as Stikes chuckled and leaned heavily against his mate. Shadow chose that moment to jump up next to them, crawling over to lay across both of their laps.
“I love you, love of mine.”
“I love you too, my darling mate.”
They all groaned again.
“We need to find somewhere else to hang out,” Boyd said.
“No one else will ply you with all the snacks,” Stiles said, smiling.

As he tried to blink the sleep from his eyes, Isaac found his bedroom coated in streamers and confetti. He got out of bed with both a smile and a hint of concern. It was sweet of his pack mates to be so extra for his birthday, but it didn’t bode well that they were able to do all this around him and he didn’t even wake up.
When he got into the kitchen, he smiled at the scene that met him. Derek and Peter were at the stove, flipping pancakes, while Stiles was hanging up a birthday banner while making faces at Boyd, who rolled his eyes.
“Good morning.” He said, getting their attention.
Erica gasped and turned to Derek to whisper something to him. Derek chuckled and told her to, watching her as she darted over and hugged Isaac.
“Happy birthday, Isaac!” She cheered, smiling up at him.
“Thank you, Erica,” Isaac smiled and lifted her up as he hugged her back.
“Good morning, happy birthday,” Stiles said, climbing down from the island to give him a hug.
“Thank you. You didn’t have to…”
“Oh no, birthdays are a very big day in this house. Derek even has to celebrate the day he graced this ungrateful world with his presence, so that means you do too.”
Derek rolled his eyes as he passed, putting a plate of pancakes on the table.

Stiles and John had been talking when Derek came into the kitchen and hugged his mate. Stiles looked over and rested his forehead against his cheek, taking a deep breath. John was used to their displays of affection, but this was different. Seeing Derek, who was very clearly just coming in from playing in the water with the pack, and Stiles, who was still wearing the clothes that he had put on to nap in after his outing with Scott, was not an image that he had ever thought that he was going to see. He especially hadn’t thought to he would see it in his own kitchen, reminding him so much of himself and his wife not so long ago.
“I swear, if you take another one of my shirts, I will have no clothes,” Derek said softly, pressing a kiss to his forehead as he looked him over.
“Babe, I share your closet. I will return them, eventually.”
Derek smiled, nodded at John, and turned to go back outside. His pack was spread across the yard, water balloons ready to be tossed as soon as the Alpha gave the signal. Derek pulled off his dry shirt and headed out to the middle of the yard. Stiles and John watched from the window as the wolves immediately started tossing balloons.
An hour or so later, John and Boyd carried out the cake that they had made him. He smiled, hugging Isaac tighter as Derek lit the candles.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Stiles, happy birthday to you!” They all sang.
He blew out the candles, smiling brightly at all of them.
“Happy birthday, Mom,” Isaac joked, smiling and rubbing his nose against his cheek.
“Thank you, my favorite puppy,” He replied, hugging him close.
