When Rachel sees it, she’s pretty sure she just died.
Quinn Fabray, her girlfriend , walking down the halls like she owns them (she does) except this time her hair isn’t blonde. The cheerleader, clad in her usual attire, is sporting a brunette head of hair and Rachel thinks she looks gorgeous. So gorgeous that when Quinn strutted up to Rachel’s locker, she immediately brought the cheerleader in for a mind-blowing kiss.
When they pulled away, Quinn had that famous eyebrow up. “Hello to you too, babe.”
“Your hair!” Rachel exclaims.
“Do you like it?” Quinn asks with slight insecurity visible in her eyes.
“No!” Quinn’s smile drops. “I love it.” Rachel adds on quickly. The cheerleader grins and walks Rachel to her first block.
“This is just in, head cheerleader Quinn Fabray has showed up to McKinley High showing us her natural hair color! This deserves to be on national TV.” Jacob Ben Israel speedily says, as he scouts to look for Quinn. “Let’s ask the lady herself.” Dashing to Quinn’s locker, where the brunette was, putting books in, the reporter taps her shoulder.
“Quinn Fabray!” The cheerleader spins around with wide eyes, but when she notices it’s Jacob, her eyes narrow.
“Jew freak.” Quinn acknowledges.
“Why did you decide to change your hai-”
The curly haired boy was interrupted by Rachel who squeals when she sees Quinn again, and brings the cheerleader in for another kiss, successfully interrupting Jacob’s freak-talk.
Personally, to Jacob, watching the two hottest girls (his opinion) at McKinley make out in front of him is way better than his stupid news show.
“God, you look so beautiful.” Rachel murmurs, but she notices Jacob is still standing there, so she drags Quinn away.
They’re in glee now, and Rachel still hasn’t gotten used to Quinn’s hair. The girl looks stunning and Rachel is sure she’s hypnotized.
“Fabgay. Noticed you’ve decided to copy me and jump on the Lopez-Brown-Hair train.” Santana says when she walks into the choir room, but her face betrays her when a small smile graces her lips.
“Of course I did, S. I had to look as beautiful as you.” Quinn replies cheekily.
Santana tries not to show her blush at the compliment. “Whatever. I still look better.”
“Since when did you get so charming, Quinn? And must I say, that hair looks amazing on you.” Kurt fawns, plopping down in a chair.
“I don’t know, Kurt. Maybe this look is making me a better person. I just feel different. Thank you, by the way. Your scarf is beautiful.” Kurt waves her off, mumbling a thank you.
“Woah! Wassup, Quinn!” Puck strolls in.
“Puck.”
“Looking hot, mama.”
Rachel growls, finally realizing that she’s in the choir room too, and not just in the twilight zone after her girlfriend just complimented Santana and Kurt. The singer shifts closer to Quinn, wrapping a possessive arm around her shoulder.
“Thanks, Puck.” Rachel grins inwardly when she notices that Quinn didn’t compliment Puck back.
“Hey, sis! Looking great as usual.” Mercedes compliments and sits down next to Kurt.
“Thank you, ‘Cedes. Your outfit looks great today, as usual.” Mercedes grins and winks at Quinn. Rachel snuggles in closer to Quinn, placing a light kiss on the girl’s jaw.
Finn and Sam walk in and Finn stops in his tracks.
“Hey, Quinn. Your hair!”
“Thank you, Finn.” The boy oafishly smiles and glances at Rachel. His smile dims, but he still meets her eyes with a happy glint. The two broke up a few months ago when Rachel realized she had feelings for Quinn and Finn took it just fine, but there were still some lingering feelings on his part even if he’s moved onto Chelsey Parker, another Cheerio.
“Trouty mouth! Why didn’t you compliment Q?” Santana sneers. Quinn chuckles quietly.
“Cmon now, you guys already know I helped Quinn dye her hair back.” Sam rolls his eyes playfully and sits down next to Mercedes, kissing her on the cheek.
Brittany walks in with Tina and Mike and the three drop their compliments, only to be startled when Quinn returns them.
Proud is an understatement to how Rachel is feeling right now. It feels as if Quinn has understood that these people are her friends and her family, and she’s finally letting her walls down.
They’re at lunch now and Rachel takes this moment to realize how many people at her school are utterly in love with her girlfriend. The girl in question is sitting next to Rachel with her arm around her, reading.
“Did you eat?” Rachel asks, shoving her salad to Quinn. The girl smiles and nods.
“Santana and I ate in the locker room after Cheerios practice.” Rachel worries about Quinn’s eating, but it disappears when Quinn drops a reassuring kiss to her cheek.
“Are you coming over today? Mom misses you.” Quinn closes her book to provide her full attention to her girlfriend.
Rachel smiles at the mention of Judy. “Only if she’ll make her spaghetti again.” Quinn giggles and shrugs.
“Maybe.”
Rachel licks her lips and brings Quinn in for another soaring kiss.
The couple are now sitting at the Fabray’s dining table quietly, enjoying a peaceful dinner with Quinn’s mom.
“So, Rachel, what did you think of Quinnie’s hair?” Rachel laughs at the nickname and Quinn’s blush.
“I love it. It suits her a lot and she looks really pretty.”
“Hey! I gave her those genes, you know.” Rachel giggles and Quinn rolls her eyes at her mom.
“Quinn,” Rachel calls. “How do you like your hair?”
Quinn shrugs. “I like it a lot. It feels weird going back to brunette after a long time of not having it, but it feels good to be different again. Kind of like a new beginning.” Judy and Rachel nod in understanding.
“Quinn, don’t forget to tell Sam he left his comic books here, I saw them in your room when I had to clean your sheets.” Quinn’s eyes widen and the girl looks down at her plate, mumbling something.
“Speak up, sweetie.” Rachel says, rubbing Quinn’s thigh under the table.
“They’re not his.”
“Then who’s- oh .” Judy starts cackling in laughter and Rachel follows.
“My girlfriend’s a comic nerd!” Rachel doubles over, high-fiving Judy.
“Is this considered coming out for the second time, Quinnie?” The older blonde giggles.
Quinn glares at her two favorite people until their laughter calms down.
“Once you guys are done , I’d like to take Rachel up to my room.”
Judy waves them off. “Go ahead ladies. I’ll be down here watching reruns of Glee.”
Rachel scrunches her nose. “That show is terrible.”
“Whatever.” Judy teases, kissing both girls on the forehead. “Goodnight.”
“Night!” The couple responds before racing up the stairs.
It’s now late, after watching a few movies, and the two brunettes are cuddled up in Quinn’s bed.
“You told your dads you’re staying here for the night, right?” Quinn asks softly, tucking a strand of hair behind Rachel’s ear. Rachel nods blearily and scoots closer to Quinn, tucking her head in Quinn’s neck. The cheerleader’s hands immediately tangle themselves in her hair.
“I love your hair.” Rachel mumbles into Quinn’s neck. “Have I said that today?”
Quinn chuckles. “Only a few hundred times.” Quinn feels Rachel smile into her neck.
“God, I love you .” Quinn freezes momentarily at Rachel’s confession because this is their first time saying it to each other. Of course she loves the girl back, but Quinn thought she’d want something more romantic.
“I love you too. So much.” Quinn whispers. Rachel sighs in relief and sloppily kisses Quinn on the jaw.
“Yay.” Rachel blabbers before dozing off.
Quinn smiles at her girlfriend and kisses her forehead before following Rachel off into dreamland.
