Chapter Text
I couldn’t bear to watch the process. Instead I sat on our bed and meditated. I only ever meditate when things are bad.
He walks through the door after hours of me sitting and counting breaths. He’s smiling. It’s unhinged. Nowhere near the smile he normally saves just for me. I quickly get up and jog to him.
“Tomura,” I say, grasping his forearms. “Are you okay?”
“Better than okay,” he laughs. “I have everything I need now. I feel the power in me growing every second. It’s amazing.”
I stare at him, rubbing my hands up and down his arms nervously.
“Did it hurt?”
“Horribly,” Tomura grins. “But it was worth every second.” He laughs again, throwing his head back almost violently.
“Tomura,” I say. “You’re worrying me.”
That seems to snap Tomura out of whatever high he was on. But instead of him assuring me he’ll be okay, his eyes darken.
“Why can’t you just be happy for me?” he asks, frowning.
“What?”
“You’re always doing this,” he continues, stepping away from me. “You’re always fucking worried. You’re never happy for me.”
The blood has drained from my face so fast that I feel dizzy.
“What are you talking about?” I breathe.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” Tomura spits.
“I don’t!” I exclaim. I fight the urge to step towards him and instead back away. I regret it instantly.
“What, are you afraid of me now?” Tomura mocks me.
“No!” I yell. “No, I just- I don’t understand where this is coming from!”
“Sure,” he says. “Sure you don’t.”
“You’re being fucking ridiculous,” I spit back, staring him straight in the eye before walking past him and out of our bedroom. He makes a sudden move, as if to grab my arm, but I jerk out of his way just in time.
“Don’t you dare,” I say, before slamming the door in his face.
I make my way to the run-down room we call the common area, only to find everyone staring at me upon my entrance.
“What.” I glare at them.
“You two never fight,” Twice points out the obvious.
“Yeah, well we’re fighting now,” I say.

I leave the base with nothing but my credit card and an umbrella. It’s pouring out, and my shoes are soaked by the time I reach a park.
I didn’t have a plan. I just left. So I lower my umbrella slowly and stand in the rain. It feels too melodramatic, and I start walking again.
I don’t go back to the base that night. I sleep in a love hotel by myself.
