Chapter Text
It was around three o’clock in the morning. Rook was sleeping soundly; hunting the Savanaclaw residents was very tiresome work after all. An open window on the far side of the room let in the cool night air and the soft sound of chirping crickets. Everything was still, quiet, and perfect.
BANG
Rook was violently jolted from his sleep by the sudden pounding at his door. Before he even had time to react, the noise sounded again as he heard an all too familiar voice shouting his name. “Rook! Open up, I have some wonderful news!” “What the- Roi du Poison? What’s going on, has something happened?” He rushed to open the door before Vil woke the entire dorm with his pounding. “Has something happened? Has something
happened
? Oh, Rook you won’t believe what happened, you really won’t believe it!” The dorm leader cried, pulling his friend into a crushing hug. This shocked the hunter to his core; Vil was never one to show much affection, let alone an unprompted hug!
“Are you feeling ok? I don’t like how you’re acting, maybe I should take you to the infirmary…” “No, no I’m fine, just listen! Didn’t you hear me before? I’ve come with some wondrous news!” The dorm leader let go of Rook as he went to sit on the bed. “Well, to be honest I was paying more attention to the fact that you came barging in here at three in the morning like a bull in a china shop. I mean really, Roi du Poison, you’re much more courteous than that!” The vice dorm leader sighed, closing the now battered door. Vil practically vibrated with excitement. “Yes, yes I know I’ll fix everything in the morning, but you’ve got to hear what I have to tell you! Do you remember when my agent called me about that new movie coming up? The one about the war between seasons?” Rook remembered it clearly. It hadn’t exactly been a pleasant experience for both him and Vil, seeing as how the latter was once again up for the role of the main villain.
“Yes… you’d been asked to audition for the role of Winter, correct?” Vil’s eye twitched slightly as he recalled the interaction. “Correct, but that’s not the point. Anyway, Neige was up for the role of Spring, as per usual, and it seemed the casting was all but set in stone, until my manager gave me a call just ten minutes ago. Can you guess what she told me?” Vil looked at the hunter expectantly. Rook shook his head. “Neige suddenly called the casting director out of the blue and turned down the role. They went down the list to find a replacement and they chose... me! It’s finally happening, Rook! I’m finally going to play the hero and show the world just how beautiful I can be!” The vice dorm leader’s mouth fell open in shock. “Wha- that’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you.” He smiled as Vil pulled him into another hug. But he couldn’t help but have a small feeling in the pit of his stomach that things weren’t going to be quite what his friend expected them to be.
Oh, Vil. Why can’t you see that you don’t need to be the hero to be beautiful?
