Arizona had just finished tidying up the kitchen. Her guest cooked, after all, so the least she could do was clean. Finding her glass of white wine on the marble counter, she brought it with her into the living room. Her guest looking at the collection of framed photos resting on her piano, a glass of red wine in hand.
It was a good red wine – an aged cabernet sauvignon. Callie's favorite.
Arizona had actually bought it for Callie. She bought her favorite wine and everything she needed to make Callie's favorite lasagna. She was going to surprise her wife when they came home from their last session of couple's therapy together.
But they didn't leave together, and Callie never came home.
When her guest was looking at her wine collection and mentioned that particular bottle looked good, Arizona had half a mind to say that she was saving it for someone. But how long could she save wine for someone who wasn't coming back? Someone who didn't love her back.
The blonde felt a knot in her stomach, and leaned in closer, feeling a little protective of her photos. Moments captured of happier times. She proudly displayed her favorite photos of Tim, but the great majority of the frames were filled with pictures of Sofia. She had everything from the standard school pictures to goofy toothless selfies. Some had Arizona in them, a few even featured Zola, and she had two of Sofia with her parents, one when Sofia was a baby, and one more recent photo.
A couple of the photos had Callie in them. Arizona made an effort not to display pictures of her ex-wife, but these, she'd reasoned, were more about Sofia's big moments, and Callie's presence wasn't the focal point.
"Your daughter's beautiful," Eliza mused, abruptly drawing Arizona from her thoughts.
Arizona smiled once she gathered her bearings. She always felt a rush of pride when she thought about her daughter. Sofia was beautiful, inside and out. Then, as the pride dissipated, the weight of just how much Arizona missed her daughter almost crushed her.
The brunette turned to face Arizona, smiling flirtatiously. "She's beautiful, just like her mother."
Arizona smiled to herself. That was undeniable. "Yeah, she absolutely is," the blonde stated, looking at the photos. "She looks just like Callie, and Callie is really just– She's beautiful. Breathtakingly stunning. She can light up an entire room."
Eliza stiffened and cleared her throat. "I, um… I was talking about you…"
Arizona stared at her feet before taking a gulp of wine. "Oh."
