There are two people in life that everyone is destined to find.
The first is their soulmate, the one that they're supposed to spend the rest of their life with, marked by a symbol on their wrist.
Reki's soulmate mark was a snowflake. It hadn't made sense to him at first, since it didn't snow in Okinawa, and he had long deemed it either a mistake or a sick joke.
Until Langa arrived in his life and it all made sense.
His soulhate mark made even less sense.
The small rose on his shoulder eluded him.
"You don't think it's Shadow, do you? I mean, he annoyed me at first but he's cool now," Reki shrugged with a swig of his water, snuggling up to Langa. As much as he tried for it not to be, it was terribly obvious that the car Shadow drove to "S" was his company car, and he worked at a florist.
Langa shook his head. "Nah, when you figure out who it is it won't be just an annoyance, you'll absolutely despise the person." He sighed. His soulhate mark was a car, signifying the drunk driver that killed his father. His mark matched his mother's. "And there won't be a time where you ever think they're cool, so it's definitely not Shadow." He presses a kiss to Reki's forehead. "Why are you so determined to figure out who it is? I was always more intrigued by the gear on my wrist." He accentuates that with another kiss, referring to the soulmate mark that led him to Reki.
"I just want to know who it is so I can get it over with!" Reki groans, exasperated, "I'm only interested now because I've found you, otherwise I'd be more interested in my soumate mark too."
"That's fair. I can't think of it that way because I found my soulhate before my soulmate."
Reki just made a face, lost in thought.
Koyomi's face was practically touching Reki's when he finally realized she was there. "Koyomi what the fuck?!"
"What are you thinking about?" she pointed her popsicle in Reki's face. "You were lost in your own little world."
"Oh, just trying to figure out the meaning behind my soulhate mark."
Koyomi plopped on the couch next to him. "Your soulhate mark? Why do you care about who that is?"
"Just because I want to know, why does everyone keep asking me this? I was desperate to figure out what my soulmate mark was before I met Langa, so what makes this any different?" Reki grabbed the remote and started flipping channels. "It's not like I'm gonna, like, kill the person or anything. I just wanna know why the person I'm supposed to hate more than anyone ever is associated with roses. It's such a weird symbol to have for that. If my soulmate mark had been a rose that would have been more understandable. Annoying, because it wouldn't have been Langa, but understandable. But how can I hate someone associated with roses?"
Turns out, Reki figured it out at "S" that night.
Turns out, that night was the first time in ages that the man, myth, legend, Adam himself made his presence known at the underground skating ring.
Turns out, Adam was coming to woo Langa after having heard of his skating prowess, not knowing that he was Reki's soulmate. And he was doing so with a bouquet of roses.
And suddenly everything made sense. Anger and hatred bubbled up in Reki's soul in a way he'd never experienced before. Despite his better judgement, he walked right between Adam and Langa, contempt in his eyes. "Get away from him!"
Adam placed a hand on his hip, his eyes almost rolling at Reki. "And just who might you be?"
"I'm Langa's soulmate, so you need to back away from him!" Reki tried to make himself larger than he actually was, especially next to both Langa and Adam.
"Wait a minute!" Adam grabbed Langa's wrist and examined it, namely his soulmate mark. It had looked briefly familiar when it had caught his eye, but upon closer inspection it became clear. The gear on Langa's wrist matched the one that Adam had always had on his right shoulder. Which meant…
"Holy shit!" he looked Reki up and down, "You're my soulhate? I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life hating a punk like you?"
Reki groaned. Of course he would be the one with a mutual soulhate. They weren't common, usually your soulhate is someone who doesn't give you the time of day after whatever it is they do that gives you that moment of realization, like in Langa's case.
But no. No no no, that can't happen to Reki. Reki's soulhate has to be someone that feels the same way, someone he's probably going to encounter many, many times.
And someone that is trying to take Langa from him, despite the fact that Reki could definitely tell that his soulmate mark was clearly some sort of flower (what was it? A chrysanthemum, right?) and now the snowflake that Reki had on his wrist. That just made the hate even more prominent. "Whatever you're doing, stop it! You have your soulmate, and I have mine!"
Adam blinked, his own hatred bubbling up to the surface. There it was. "Oh, little red, you're sorely mistaken. I'm not in this for that."
Reki rolled his eyes. "Could have fooled me, what with the giant bouquet of roses. I always wondered why it was a rose. My soulhate mark that is. Guess I got my answer."
Adam pushed him aside to get back to Langa. Hard. "Now, Langa-kun, darling Snow, care to skate with me?"
Before Langa had a chance to answer. Reki piped up. "Adam! I challenge you to a beef!"
A blink, and then a shrug. "Fine, whatever." Adam picked up his skateboard. "Meet you at the starting gate, though it's the only time we'll be evenly matched."
Reki grumbled as Shadow took him home from the emergency room after they wrapped up his arm. Langa was next to him in the back seat. "Why did you do that?"
"I couldn't help myself," Reki pouted, "The hatred I felt tonight… I get it now, what you said. But I regret that I cared so much. About finding him. Fucking Adam."
But that was only the beginning of the way that Adam would occupy Reki's mind.
And he, of course, hated it.
