"I'm so sorry to ask you a favor this late in the night, it's just- Dan's family needs my help with something and I really don't want to leave Trixie all alone." Chloe spoke into her phone quietly, arms crossed as she paced the living room of her home. She heard shuffling on the other end of the line before a familiar voice responded.
"Detec—.. Chloe, you know I don't mind. I'll be over soon."
Lucifer's reassurance managed to calm Chloe down. That was all she needed. "Thank you so much."
"It's no problem, really. You know I love Trixie," There was a pause. "Course, not as much as I love you— but, you get the point."
She giggled. "I do, Lucifer. I do."
Chloe opened the door upon Lucifer's arrival, her smile widening when he smiled at her. She stood aside to allow him inside the house.
"Thank you again, Lucifer. I owe you, okay? I'll hopefully be back by morning." Lucifer nodded, his brows raising as Chloe moved closer and planted a kiss on his cheek. "I love you."
She spoke before grabbing her keys and walking to the door.
"I love you, too." He managed to respond before she waved and shut the door.
It was always... odd being in her house without her there. The place felt dull. Empty. Or maybe that was just him. Lucifer shook his head at such thoughts and quietly walked to the couch, beginning to take a seat until he heard a door open.
"Lucifer..?" Now why on Earth was she awake?
The Devil quickly stood back up, turning his attention to Trixie and managing a half smile at her. She didn't return it, though he didn't expect her to.
"Hello, Trixie. Sorry if I scared you."
Trixie moved closer to Lucifer, walking around the couch and staring up at him. He seemed confused at first, even a little concerned, but as she began moving closer, he realized what she was doing.
"You didn't scare me," He heard her mumble.
Her arms had wrapped around his torso in what he could only describe as an attempt at a hug. He had grown more accustomed to them since the first time she had done it.
The gesture was returned, Lucifer's arms moved and gently wrapped around Trixie, his shoulders slouching. Trixie turned her head, resting it on his chest. The next words to leave her mouth was something he wasn't too prepared to hear.
"I miss my dad.."
And rightfully so. He understood, really. Dan had died and she was grieving. Along with Chloe. He wasn't exactly sure how it specifically felt, but he could... make an attempt. This is Chloe's daughter, one of the few people Lucifer really cared about.
Lucifer sighed and slowly sat down, moving Trixie beside him and wrapping his arms around her again. She laid her head back on his chest and suddenly, he could feel his dress shirt getting damp.
She was crying.
"I know you do. Trust me, we all miss him."
Lucifer took a moment, tightening his grip on her and closing his eyes as the two got comfortable on the couch. He had seen and spoken to Dan last night, but the idea of telling her Dan missed her too just didn't sit right with him. And so, he kept it to himself. Trixie obviously had to know that Dan missed her, too.
"I just hope he's okay." Now there was something he had been hoping he'd never hear. Sure, Dan was 'okay'. But he was also in Hell. Granted, he wasn't in a Hell loop, but he could imagine playing ping pong for thousands of years wasn't exactly fun.
Lucifer had to go with the generic reply of "I'm sure wherever he is, he's fine." Even despite how badly he didn't want to.
Lucifer decided against saying anything else, figuring Trixie needed to cry more. He's heard grieving is a long process and while he's aware it's far from over, this is a good start. Perhaps a year or so ago, he would've been repulsed by the idea of this, but now? He couldn't care. He wants to help Trixie as much as possible.
And Chloe, obviously.
After another moment or two, he slowly began to notice she had fallen asleep. He had the thought of picking her up and taking her to bed, but moving her didn't appeal to him and he didn't want to wake her up.
So, instead, Lucifer shifted a little, tilting his head over to kiss the top of Trixie's head before he closed his eyes and sighed.
"Goodnight, Beatrice."
Chloe quietly unlocked the door, gently pushing it open as she walked inside and shut the door. It was just barely morning, so she assumed Trixie was still asleep. Lucifer was a different story, but as she walked into the living room further, she finally caught the sight of Trixie and Lucifer.
There, on the couch, his arm still around her and her head still on his chest, Trixie and Lucifer were snoozing the morning away.
Chloe smiled to herself before she walked off to grab a comforter. After returning, she gently placed it over the two sleeping on the couch, pressing kisses to both of their foreheads. She closed the blinds by the door afterwards, pausing as she reached the bottom of the stairs.
"Goodnight, guys. I love you."
While she had made her way upstairs, Chloe didn't get to see the hint of a smile upon Trixie's lips.
"Goodnight, mom." She murmured, burying her face back into Lucifer's chest.
And it seemed that Trixie missed the small smile forming across Lucier's lips as well. He didn't mind babysitting or watching over Trixie at all, really. She wasn't a handful or anything of the sort and she was a good kid, so he slowly drifted off again, anticipating the next time he'd watch after Trixie.
