Bow was holding on tight to Glimmer as they stared down Horde Prime. He still couldn't believe that less than an hour ago, Glimmer had told him she loved him, but that was not the time for those thoughts. Assuming they made it out of this alive, they would have the entire journey to Brightmoon to discuss it.
Then something caught his eye. Melog who, up to that point, had been glowing a fierce, jagged red, a reflection of Catra's emotions, suddenly started glowing the soft blue with rounded edges it did when it was calm or... near Adora. Catra had found Adora. That at least was a small relief. Melog started pacing lightly, but Bow noticed a limp in the creature's stride. So Catra had found Adora, but she was hurt.
Melog stayed that way for a while before a sudden change to bright red with sharp, angled lines flowing quickly around it. The change alarmed Bow, but not as much as when it softened. Not to blue, oh no, Melog was still glowing red. But the jagged lines flowing around it had slowed. Catra wasn't angry. This was something else. Melog was making a quiet mewling sound, and oh stars above, was it crying? Bow had never known Catra to cry, but based on what he knew of her, this could only mean one thing. Something had happened to Adora. The realization made Bow's stomach sink.
The longer Melog's mewling went on, the worse the odds of winning seemed to Bow. "The failsafe," he whispered. "It didn't work."
And then Melog switched to blue with soft lines. Bow didn't understand why, but then Melog laied down and began to nuzzle the air in front of it. That was when the green fire around them simply stopped, and the entrance to the Heart of Etheria began to glow a blinding gold and rainbow light. Oh. Bow considered himself a very observant person, so he had picked up on the feelings between Adora and Catra that were clearly reciprocated. He figured he knew exactly what had just happened at the Heart of Etheria. Love had saved them all.
His suspicions were confirmed when he saw Adora and Catra standing at the top of a hill, foreheads pressed together in a clearly romantic embrace. He and Glimmer snuck up behind them, and with one glance at each other, they squealed with joy and leaped on their best friends, all four of them crumbling down to the ground laughing.
They would be okay.
