Outside the window, lightning flashes, illuminating the sky for less than a second, followed moments later by deep, rumbling thunder—add that to the rain hammering against the roof, and Rhyme has no hope of paying attention to the TV.
Not that they can concentrate much anyway with Beat hunched under the blanket, hands clamped over his ears and jaw clenched to suppress the whimpers trying to escape him as the storm draws nearer. Although he does become less of a distraction when Rhyme pulls their brother into a hug, silently soothing him through his panic as the storm rages.
