Of Ice Cream and Strawberries

Summary:

Most 17-year-olds finding out they're expecting a child would fear their parents throwing them out or cutting ties. For Shoto, it's neither. His father would go two ways. One, get rid of it. Two, use it.

Faced with the choice of giving up his child or risking its life for the sake of power, Shoto is in for one hell of a senior year.

Chapter 1: Just One Night

Chapter Text

It had been just one moment of vulnerability. One simple moment he let his guard down and let someone in. At the time, he was surprised he didn't regret it. Most people said if you moved too quickly or were too eager to do it, you'd regret it.

But he didn't. Not one bit.

Yes, they weren't close, and yes he didn't picture them becoming anything but it had been something he'd enjoyed. And that was the honest truth.

Sure alcohol had played in their decision to partake in the devil's tango, but he could remember it all. Remember how for once his mind wasn't a flood of a thousand and one thoughts, concerns, and worries and for one night he could focus on one thing and one thing only.

The person on top of him. How they looked. How they sang out at every slight movement. How they slept. Their face was so calm as they slept.

There was a point in the evening he felt creepy, just watching them sleep, but he couldn't help it. Such a lovely sight had to be taken into its fullest extent. And he did, barely sleeping a wink and watching the other person sleep until it was far past seven in the morning. A smile never left his face as he refrained from running his fingers through their messy hair.

So he didn't regret it. But now he wasn't sure. A million thoughts swirled through his mind. As his sister knocked lightly at the door. As he questioned if he regretted it or not. As he stared down at the positive pregnancy test.

His breath finally caught up with him as his brain finally seemed to understand what his eyes saw. His throat swelled and he was sure he was going to puke. His brain had already been shattered but now it was nothing but dust. The breaking began when his sister openly thought about how long it had been since she'd bought pads. While she laughed it off, he began to think. How long exactly had it been since he'd gotten his period?

It wasn't of course long before Fuyumi noted how pale he'd turned and what had started as a laugh soon turned to her hugging him before leaving for the nearest drug store.

Oh right. Fuyumi.

"Sho, are you okay?" Her voice was choked, exactly how it sounded the morning after crying. Fuyumi cried often at night. The walls were thinner than she probably thought and he'd grown used to listening to her hiccups as he dozed off. It was like a lullaby. As a child and they would sometimes share a bed he found himself wiping her cheeks clean of them, wishing she would sleep peacefully.

He stood up from the toilet seat, taking a moment to flush it even if he already had. As he let hot soapy water burn his hands, the other three pregnancy tests sprawled across the floor caught his eye. To his horror, they were also positive.

So, now not only did he have dirt on his hand for sleeping with a classmate but also for getting pregnant by said classmate.

Gripping the sides of the sink, he hung his head low. His bangs fell forward, obstructing his view. His head shook slightly. He couldn't have let this happen. This could not be happening. It was something you heard happening to teens in the Business track, not the Hero course.

They worked too hard to have time for something like that, and even if they did, being safe and using protection should be a priority. After all, their greatest weapon was their bodies and pregnancy would make that a tool almost impossible to use. And he wouldn't put it past his teachers to expel him. And with just a few months left before graduation, what luck.

He reluctantly traced his mind back. So much had happened that night. As a celebration for finally getting them surviving their first round of testing, the rest of their classmates had put together a little party, involving both classes. It had come as a surprise but Mina sadly made it impossible for him to leave without a few drinks at least. So for an hour, he sipped on a beer. No teachers were monitoring the inside of the party (though a few were stationed outside) making it easy to sneak in the alcohol.

He must've had four at most but his bet was two. Still, whatever Mina had Kaminari get was hella strong as he could barely remember how they'd ended up making out in the upstairs hallway.

"Someone's... coming."

The two words echoed through his mind and he was painfully reminded that he was the one to pull them both into his room. Which only brought their make-out session to the next level.

And through the lust of the moment, the thought of protection just slipped.

And of course, fate wouldn't just let him enjoy himself with all walls down for one evening. It had to come back and bite him for having a little fun.

The taps against the door became louder. "Sho can I come in?"

Shoto flipped the water off. Bending over her tossed the test into the trash without a thought. His father spent almost all his time at his office so he didn't have to worry about him finding them and with Natsuo at college his only real concern was Fuyumi but she already knew. Or she was at least about to find out.

He pulled open the door to find her pressed up against it. She stumbled back, pulling herself together and rubbing her eye with her sleeve. A weak smile surfaced."So, do you um want to or do you-"

"I'm pregnant," he said bluntly. The word left a strange feeling in his throat that he tried to shake off. Turning away from her, he only caught a bit of how her face fell. Shaking that off as well he continued his way towards his bedroom.

That's right. Sunday he went back to the dorms and the school year would continue.

He gripped at his shirt, trying to stomach the sick feeling stuck in his throat. It was only April. He still had the rest of his senior year. Could he survive that?

"Sho wait!" Fuyumi's socks made a soft noise as she chased him down. Despite him only walking a few feet, she was still huffing by the time she made it to him. His shirt grew tight as her hand-welded itself into his shoulder."This isn't something you can blow off or forget about. I'll go put on some tea. Come to the dining room in a bit and we can talk,"

He shrugged away, staying silent as he continued to his room.

There wasn't much to say about his bedroom. He had no grand posters. No bright colors. Heck, he barely had any photos. But of the photos he did, one always caught his attention.

While most of his stuff had been moved when the dorm policy was put in place, some remained for when he visited back and of course when he moved back in full time once school ended. Through his two, now almost three years at U.A. he'd felt himself grow more open to the idea of change. Or rather what felt like a change.

Take a look at his desk and you'd see a clear change. Two years ago he had two photos on it. One of Fuyumi, Natsuo, Touya, and him back when they were younger and a photograph of their mother from when she was still in high school. Those were the only light in his room but now knew faces smiled from the pictures. Pictures from throughout the years, pictures with his classmates, and friends, and him.

As he held a class photo from their first year, his eyes laid on one face. For some reason, he wasn't feeling any hatred, just disgust. They hadn't even been a couple or even come close to spoken feelings so to let him get him pregnant was just insane.

He couldn't be mad. After all, it was all chance. It was a chance they both had one too many drinks. It was a chance they ended up alone in that hallway. It was a chance they grew fascinated with one another. It was a chance that led to kissing. It was a chance he caught himself staring at the sleeping blonde, seeing him calm for the first time in the almost three years he'd known him.

His eyes grew heavy at the thought. Setting the picture back down, the screams of the tea kettle echoing through the home caught his attention.

Walking out of his room, it felt like the class photos were all glaring at him. And that smug ass blond was grinning straight at him.

"Shut up," he muttered under his breath. He pushed his hands into his jean pockets and listened to how the screams died down.

The cold was still holding its fight against the summer heat. He didn't mind, however. Natsuo, Fuyumi, and Rei all preferred it cold and as long as they were content so was he. A breeze, surprisingly chilly for May blew past, toying with his knotted hair. Bringing his hand back, he tugged at the strands.

With school starting, he'd accidentally let it grow out. Too far for his liking. He'd have to have Fuyumi cut it before he left. Though at the moment, that was the least of his worries.

Pulling open the sliding door, he settled down onto the cushion. It was plush and though he could feel the floor through it, it was still comfortable. Much more comfortable than a rough chair.

A creak rang out and he raised his head to find his sister's head had poked through. At his sudden movement, Fuyumi ducked back. He could hear her mutter a curse and the sound of liquid falling caught his ear. Before he could get up to see if he could help, she stepped forward, this time as a full apparition.

"Don't worry, it's just a little. Gotta be more careful huh?" As if there were no problems in either of their lives, she smiled wide. But it wasn't a surprise at all. Even during their lowest points, she had always been smiling. Even when their life had been hell, she was smiling.

Honestly, if it weren't for her, he and Natsuo probably would have teamed up to kill their father. Luckily the number one hero was safe as long as his daughter was around.

A thin pool of steaming water covered the bottom of the tray. Being delicate to not splash herself, Fuyumi shook both their cups dry, setting one in front of each of them. He kept his head low, focusing only on the sound the water made as it thrashed against the sides of the cup.

"Thank you,"

Fuyumi looked up, staring at him with watery eyes. Shoto could hear her slapping her hands over her mouth, forcing herself to choke back a sob. Lifting her glasses off her nose, she rubbed both her eyes clean. Adjusting them till she could see clearly she stared back out at him, offering a weak smile.

Shoto showed no response, keeping his head low and eyes to the side. Fuyumi eventually pulled her eyes away as well, but she wouldn't let the silence sit any longer. "You know, mom told me you were by far the easiest."

"Huh?" he asked, allowing his head to snap up. She was looking off to the side, tears still eminent in her lovely brown eyes.

"When she was pregnant. You gave the least fuss out of all of us." She grinned. "Natsuo was by far the worst."

Rei had never discussed pregnancy, or at least with him. But he couldn't be too shocked. She was sent away when he was merely five and with their situation at the time, he doubted she wanted to reflect on the past. Especially when the four of them had technically been the source of all her problems.

"Gives me hope maybe they'll be easy on you,"

She had lost her smile and he was grateful for that.

A breath passed through her lips and he averted his eyes.

"Sho, when did you last you know, um, have sex?"

"Only once." He managed to say it clearly, not hiccuping once. His heart sunk at the reality of his words."It... It was over a month ago,"

Fuyumi nodded, taking a sip of her tea."It's your body Sho, therefore your choice. If you want to get an abortion then I can help schedule one-"

"No. Not an abortion." He wasn't certain on much but that was one thing he was. Keep it or not, some loving couple possibly unable to have children could receive this child. That sounded pretty good to him though he couldn't ignore how much simpler an abortion would be. He could erase his screw-up and move on with life. Not risk anyone finding out and not risk ruining his promising hero career.

"Okay then, do you think you want to keep it?" Silence only met her and her lips sunk lower."You don't have to decide now. I'll call your doctor to set up an appointment. I should call the school as well. I'm sure the nurse and your Principal would like to know."

"No, don't call," the words fell out in a gasp and he strangled himself back. Was he being selfish? It sure felt that way. Here he was, meant to deal with his mistake but all he could think about was his career.

"Sho,"

Her voice dragged out and it made her sound like a mother. He winced at the notion."Please. Schools just started. It's selfish I know but please can we wait a bit before telling them,"

Fuyumi's eyebrows knit together. Her eyes close and she sighs."Fine, but your doctor could easily contact them. Especially since it is such a well-known school. But not long okay. With everything they make you do there, you could easily push yourself too far. And knowing you, you will try and do that." He was sure she meant to mumble that last part but it came out just as powerful as her other words.

"An about that, Sho you don't have to now but sometime soon we're going to have to tell dad,"

For most teens, they'd be concerned about their parents kicking them out. But that would never be a concern of his. Shoto was Endeavour's masterpiece, he wouldn't let that go to waste. Shoto shook at the thought of what his father would do. He might've changed but nothing would erase the man he truly was.

Despite the Number One Hero trying his best to be there, Shoto knew well he wouldn't pass up the opportunity for another masterpiece. Or having a mistake ruin his current one. Both scenarios hollowed him.

"We'll wait." Shoto raised his chin to find Fuyumi staring straight at him. Long tears were running down her bright cheeks. Soon, he became aware of his own.

"Until your pass the time to get an abortion. I'm old enough where I don't think they'll contact him and knowing Dad he'd just ignore their calls." She cupped his cheek. Her hand was warm, probably from the tea. Shoto didn't hesitate to lean in."Don't worry Sho, I'm here. I'm here for you and the baby,"

Baby? That would take some getting used to. He sniffled, nodding his head. He didn't cry, but without control, they began to fall. Simple streams lined his face. Soon two arms were wrapped around him and warmth surrounded him.

Fuyumi continued to whisper into his ear but he didn't retain any of it. He just let the warmth she gave out consume him. When she finally let go, he'd almost been lulled to sleep.

"Do you want to sleep? I can tell Natsuo you were tired from training."

He frowned, shaking his head."No, I'll be fine." He raised a hand to clean his face but she beat him to the punch. The fibers of her seater tickled his skin but successfully cleared away the wetness.

She took a moment to wipe her own then stood, still holding his hand in hers."Help me with dinner. It'll get your mind off things."

He had no reason to argue. Letting her guide him out, Shoto kept his head low, trying his hardest to think about dinner rather than anything else. That came easier than he would have thought. Thinking about the pork she planned on cooking up, a favorite of Natsuo's. Along with the ice tea she had been working on earlier. Dinner. Dinner would be good. Just a normal dinner between siblings. No talk about babies, or anything pertaining to the subjecting.

"Oh,"

Shoto raised his head, noticing she'd stopped."Everything alright?" he asked.

"Ya," she laughed off, clearly uncomfortable. She pulled her sleeves down over her knuckles. Whether it was out of discomfort or the chilly breeze passing through, he wasn't sure. At least at the moment, he wasn't sure. "I was just um wondering if you um knew the father? Or who he is?"

He'd never felt shame before but she had just doused him in it."Yes. I know him."

He was grateful she hadn't turned back. Her grip loosened for a moment before tightening."Oh okay, do you think you'll tell him?"

"No."

For some reason that was an easy decision.

"Okay, I was just curious. Now dinner!"

Shoto sensed her wanting to ask more and he could tell this was only the beginning of the many talks he'd have to endure. He followed her, staying silent but also silently cursing to himself; Thanks a lot Bakugou.
