You Could've Just Asked

Summary:

Oikawa comes back to Japan for Christmas and Hajime picks him up at the airport.

Or the one where Iwaizumi and Oikawa are both pining and they're too dumb to realize it.

Work Text:

Hajime watches the incoming crowd at Haneda Airport. It isn't the flight that he wants it to be but he supposes that's fine. The flight he needs should be landing soon, he just needs to be patient.

Now, if he just had the patience, that would be fantastic. Part of him is regretting not asking Makki and Mattsun to come along but he's quick to get rid of that; he knows that if they'd come along, they would have just teased him relentlessly about his "very obvious" crush on Oikawa.

In the corner of his eye, he can see a mop of curly orange hair rush past him. Was that Hinata? he wonders. Before he can think too much about it, though, he hears the overhead speaker crackle to life. He perks up, listening earnestly to what the voice is saying. The moment the words Buenos Aires come through, he sets his gaze on the hall where the passengers will come through from the plane.

He watches people start to walk through, his eyes searching for dark brown hair and a familiar gait. He glanced down at his phone, trying to see if there's any messages or missed calls from anyone besides his mom and the other two dumbasses he calls friends.

He tries not to let the disappointment grow too much when he sees nothing.

Oikawa will unboard soon. He's probably just trying to get his carry on from above his seat, he reasons.

"Iwa-chan!" a melodic voice calls out, ripping him from his thoughts. His head shoots up so fast that he's sure he's got whiplash now and his eyes search frantically through the crowd. It doesn't take him long at all to spot the long arm waving eagerly at him. Oikawa hurries over to him, barreling into him. Hajime's arms wrap around the taller man instinctively.

It's been a few months since they've seen each other last and Hajime can feel that gap that always comes with Oikawa's absence starting to shrink. As cliche as it probably sounds, he feels more complete now than he did three hours ago. He lets out a deep sigh and sinks into Oikawa's hug.

The setter lets out a laugh. "Did you really miss me that much, Iwa-chan?"

"Shut up, shittykawa," Hajime grumbles into his shoulder. Oikawa just laughs again, his arms tightening just a little.

"I missed you too, Hajime," he murmurs into Hajime's ear. Then, "We should probably get going."

Hajime reluctantly lets go of him, stepping back and clearing his throat. "Yeah, sure." He grabs one of Oikawa's bags and hoists it over his shoulder, not missing the way that Oikawa's eyes seem to ogle his biceps for a moment. He smirks. "Let's go, Loserkawa, our dumbass friends are waiting."

Oikawa looks at him, their gazes meeting for a moment, and Hajime could swear that Oikawa's cheeks are pink. "Okay."

They walk outside, squinting at the sudden bright sunlight. When they reach his car, Hajime tosses the bag into the backseat, making Oikawa squawk indignantly.

"Be careful with that, Iwa-chan! I have important things in that!"

Hajime snorts. "Like what? A volleyball?"

Oikawa crosses his arms across his chest, his lips jutting out in a pout. "No, it's actually a surprise for you, you big jerk."

"You didn't have to," Hajime says as he slides into the driver seat.

The pout softens into a fond expression. "I know, but I wanted to. Just let me spoil you this one time, Hajime."

The use of his given name sends a thrill down Hajime's spine. "Okay, fine," he grumbles. Oikawa grins brightly and Hajime can't help the small smile that graces his own lips because of it. The car starts and Hajime maneuvers them out of the airport parking lot and into Tokyo traffic.

The car ride back to Hajime's apartment is uneventful and quiet, save for Oikawa singing along to the radio. When they finally pull up to his apartment building, Oikawa grabs his hand.

"Wait," he says.

"What?" The setter chews on his bottom lip for a moment, his eyes flickering between Hajime and anywhere else in the car. "Spit it out, Tooru. Mattsun and Makki are-"

His words are interrupted by a pair of lips covering his, effectively swallowing whatever he was going to say. Oikawa's lips are soft, though they are just a tad bit chapped, and warm. Hajime sits, shell-shocked for a moment before his eyes slip shut and he kisses back. It's pretty much everything he dreamed his first kiss with Oikawa would be, minus the fact that they're sitting in his car instead of somewhere else, like the park.

There's no fireworks exploding in his stomach but he does feel the butterflies that have made his body their residence since their second year of high school start to move around. Happiness washes over him as their lips move gently together. It's a tentative first kiss, one that isn't quite sure if this is okay, if feelings are reciprocated.

They break apart only when air becomes absolutely necessary. Oikawa leans his forehead against Hajime's, their eyes meeting.

"Sorry, Iwa-chan, I couldn't help myself," he says quietly. He doesn't look apologetic in the slightest, his lips tugging up into a smile.

"Dumbass, you could've just asked," Hajime says, his voice just as quiet.

"Can I kiss you, Hajime?" Warmth spreads across Hajime's face and Oikawa giggles at the wide eyed stare that he's receiving. "Well you did say that I-"

Hajime is the one to shut Oikawa up with a kiss this time and their second kiss is just as good as their first. He pulls away, chuckling as Oikawa tries to chase after his lips. "I did say that, Tooru."

"Mean, Iwa-chan. You're mocking me."

"Nope." He leans back in, placing a quick kiss on Oikawa's lips. "Not mocking, just teasing. Now come on, Makki and Mattsun are waiting on us." He gets out of the car and Oikawa squawks again, hurrying to follow after him.

They're not in a huge rush to figure out what exactly their relationship is now, but they've got two weeks before Oikawa has to go back to Argentina. They'll figure it out, just like they always do.

Notes:

I hope you guys enjoyed this one! It's a little shorter than I was hoping it'd be but that's okay. Anyways, I hope you all have a great day!
