Work Text:
Izuku Midoriya, a UA Hero Course student in his first year is the kind of person to be the modern model of what heroism is supposed to be. He's top of his class, a great student, and an ever greater hero…
So why was he sitting next to one of his classmates who was smoking weed on the rooftop of their dorm? Well, originally he had found the idea quite vexing, managing to scold the boy in his own awkward nature, but ultimately never deciding to snitch as it wasn't his place to tell someone how to live their life.
But somewhere along the line, Izuku began to join the boy, talking about many different topics such as class, their classmates, life, and sometimes even their nonexistent love lives. Izuku especially had it bad for a certain purple haired rocker in their class, and Sero made it a point to tease him about it whenever they could.
That's right, Hanta Sero, the culprit of the drugs brought onto the UA campus. It was unlikely that him and a square like Izuku would be friends, but after awhile the two boys grew a sort of dynamic and actually ended up enjoying each other's company, despite the fact that Izuku would never join him in his consumption of hemp products.
Every day on the roof, Sero would offer some to the greenette, and every single time Izuku would politely decline his offer. He was afraid, but more importantly he was the type to believe that his body needed to be a temple in order to perform well as a hero, not that he thought Sero wasn't, the tape quirked boy could just be a bit… Absent minded.
The duo had come up onto the roof after the escapade of performing for everyone in the school for the school festival, promising to meet up afterwards due to Izuku being really stressed over his fight with Gentle Criminal, and just needing a friend to talk to that wasn't an obsessed brunette, a stoic pretty boy with daddy issues, or a robotic class representative. He needed someone more… Open-minded, and Hanta Sero was more than fit for the job.
"Wait, so you seriously fought with a villain today on school grounds before the festival?" Sero questioned, appalled by the fact that Izuku alone could have taken down such a formidable foe. He had seen the many videos of Gentle Criminals' antics, most of which were minor, but the fact that he was able to get past UA's defenses was incredible. Not only that, but Izuku Midoriya of all people had to fend him off! "Dude, you're nuts!"
"Gah! I know, I know, it was so bad!" Izuku exclaimed, leaning back in the lawn chair that he and Sero had brought up to their sanctuary in order to make the space a bit more comfortable for the two of them. "But you have to understand, I couldn't let them just ruin the festival… Eri was there, she deserved to find her smile again. Plus Jirou and the others worked so hard, I just couldn't let any of that go to waste!"
"Geez man, you seriously fell hard for her… But you're as admirable as ever, must be stressful always getting into danger like that, huh?" Sero noted, giving the greenette a concerned expression as he fished out a freshly rolled joint out from his pocket and leaned back in a chair of his own. "You already know what I do to destress, but do you have anything you can do?"
"...Not really. I kind of just always train and work so I don't think about stuff. If I do, it just weighs too heavily on me." Izuku explained, sighing as he stared up at the orange sky cast outward by the setting sun.
Sero stared at the greenette blankly, "Dude. That's not healthy, that's called escapism and it doesn't make your problems go away. Once again, I'm gonna offer you to take just one hit." He expressed, holding out the joint to the greenette with an orange decal zippo lighter. "Just one hit, and if you don't like it you don't have to do it ever again, but trust me when I tell you that this shit right here will chill you out. Might even help that anxiety of yours."
Izuku's eyes shifted nervously between Sero and the joint/lighter combo that was handed to him, "...Y-You sure? J-Just one hit, right? No one will know, a-and I won't get in trouble?"
"I promise, Midoriya. Just one hit, you'll be fine. If you don't like it, you never have to try it again." Sero comforted, patting the greenette on the back with his free hand. "Just try it to see if it'll help with your stress, it never hurts to try everything at least once, at least that's what I live by."
Gulping nervously as he took the items from Sero's hand, the greenette nodded in understanding.
"Right… Just one hit. For my stress."
"...Aaaand one hit turned into about five. It was some of my strongest stuff too, so do you think you could take care of him for me?" Sero questioned, turning to the person he had called over with his phone for help with such a difficult situation. Kyouka Jirou. "You're like, the only person I can trust not to blab about it, but I fully expect you to tease him about it later."
"What about your little girlfriend, Mina?" Kyouka inquired, giving the boy a blank expression as they sat in front of the greenette who seemed to be staring into space with not a thought behind his eyes. "Why out of all people do you pick me?"
"You and I both know that she can't keep a secret. Plus, like I said, I can trust you not to snitch." He explained once more, rubbing the nape of his neck. "Plus, you two get along, I'm sure you could do with some more quality time together."
Kyouka blushed and glared at the boy, "...The hell is that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing, gotta go, 'kay byyyye!" Sero replied, waving to the purplette as he made his way towards the door that led back into the dorm building, leaving Kyouka with a delirious Izuku Midoriya.
"Fucking prick." She mumbled, turning to the inebriated greenette who was now staring straight at her with red and hazy eyes. He seemed to like his mind was empty, yet as he stared at her he had a goofy smile on his face. "What's up with you? Is there something on my face, Midoriya?"
There was a pause as the greenette processed what she had said, snapping out of his trance as the information connected in his head, "Oh, sorry…'' He mumbled in response, his smile falling as he glanced around at his surroundings. He was still on the roof. "You just look really pretty, especially in the sunset like that. I got distracted…"
Kyouka's face erupted into a bright red color, her jacks coiling aimlessly as she stared at the greenette in shock, "Wh-Wh-What the hell are you saying! You can't just-"
"You're really cute when you're embarrassed too. Your jacks get all swirly and your ears get red… I wish I could see it more often." He continued, interrupting the girl's complaints entirely as his goofy smile from before returned to grace his lips with a second coming. "Man, I'd be too awkward though, I'd probably make a fool of myself when I'm around you! It's so nerve wracking, I can never find the right moment…"
"M-Midoriya, what are you trying to say?" Kyouka questioned, her heart beginning to beat out of her chest as the greenette's words were beginning to stick with her, oddly enough.
All of these compliments, and his own declaration of wanting to be closer to her despite his own fear of it not working out… She didn't know what to make of it, but it was causing a resurgence of some feelings of her own.
Sure she had only spoken to Izuku a few times, but he was the most admirable guy in their class; his willingness to help others and always have that determination about him that brings out theI best in others made her begin to notice the greenette. But his actions, more and more he would risk his life for the betterment of others, and the way he had helped the next generation (Namely Kota and Eri) how could she not grow fond of him.
She too was nervous to approach him, but she had worked up the courage, using her assistance with notes before the culture festival as an excuse, and went for it. Their conversation seemed like it would have been any other, but they ended up getting invested in talks of heroism and probably looking like fools for not speaking to one another sooner.
It was during that time where she began to realize that perhaps that admiration was more, she could imagine herself getting lost in conversation for hours and never getting bored with him as he truly took an interest in whatever nonsense she spouted during that conversation. Truthfully, she forgot what she had even said, but he was so invested and loved to chime in with comments that related to the subject of music and notes that she didn't even care about anything other than seeing his reaction to things. It was cute.
"I… Don't know actually. I can't remember." Izuku mumbled in response, cupping his chin in thought as he tried to recall what he was getting at by saying what he had been, but it seemed like his memory was failing him. "Yeah, I dunno. I sure am hungry though, I think I'm gonna get something to snack on."
Snapping out of her embarrassment, Kyouka's eyes nearly shot out of her head as Izuku was suddenly making his way off the roof, forcing the purplette to chase after him so no one would catch him in his loopy state.
"W-Wait! Hold on, you can't go down to the common room, uh…" She stated, running in front of him and blocking him from moving another step as she frantically began trying to think of a solution, only thinking of one that would keep him away from everyone else for as long as possible.
"What? Can't I just get some food?" He questioned innocently as he squinted his red eyes at her, his brow furrowing in annoyance at her attempts to stop him from feasting on anything he could get his hands on.
With a sigh, Kyouka hung her head. "No… Just come to my room, I'll get you some food while you wait there."
Re-entering her room with a handful of snacks, Kyouka was shocked to find that the greenette had found his way to her desk, idly strumming a few chords on her acoustic guitar. Upon noticing her return, the greenette smiled and placed the guitar back down on it's stand, making his way over to her to consume the bounty of snacks she had probably stolen from someone else. (She'd just have to deal with the consequences of it later).
"Heck yeah, snacks!" The boy exclaimed excitedly, taking the entire pile of snacks from her before walking back over to her desk and placing it down to inspect the pile. He was trying to figure out what to eat first.
"Were you just playing my guitar? I didn't know you could play." The girl inquired curiously, making her way beside the hungry green haired boy as she watched him snag a bag of chips and a can of cola.
"Hah? Oh, I don't really know much, I'm new to it." He explained, looking up at the ceiling thoughtfully as he cracked open his can of cola. "Only really started learning so that I could impress you a little, or at least have some reason to talk to you."
Kyouka blushed, "A-Again with that? What does that even mean, I don't want to just be getting mixed signals-" She expressed, but she bit her tongue to cut herself off. "God, what am I even saying… You're high, you probably aren't even aware of what you're saying!"
"What? No, I'm perfectly conscious of what I'm saying." The greenette stated firmly, sipping from his drink before placing it down on her desk so he didn't accidentally spill any. "I'm just… Not anxious about it anymore. Honestly it's weird, I just have no problem telling you any of this anymore."
"But what are you trying to tell me! I don't understand if this is just because you want to be friends with me, or if-" She started, cutting herself off once more as her face reddened. Izuku noticed her begin to mumble and trail off, but he couldn't quite make out what she was saying. Yet, he still could gather what she was implying; wasn't he making it obvious?
"Seriously? Jirou, I'm in love with you. Ever since the USJ when we got trapped together I've been infatuated with you, you're like… Everything I could want in a romantic partner." He explained, his expression turning serious before a grin made its way onto his face and he held up his unopened bag of chips. "Plus you got me snacks, you're the best kind of person. So kind, best girl I've ever interacted with excluding my mom."
"B-But what about Uraraka? You know she's obsessed with you, I couldn't do-"
"What about her? If I cared I wouldn't have said all this to you. She's obsessed, and maybe me expressing my feelings for you will get her to take a hint and realize I'm not, and never will be interested in her." Izuku interrupted, slandering the brunette who had been following him around rather annoyingly since day one. Truth be told, Kyouka didn't blame him.
Kyouka stared into the greenette's eyes. They seemed to have opened a tad wider since the last time she had looked at him, much less pink too. He might have been coming down from his high, but he was just as serious and forward.
"I-I… I-I think I have feelings for you too. I've always admired you, but somewhere along the lines I began to realize that the admiration and nameless other feelings and sensations I was getting around you grew into something else." Kyouka let her eyes shift to the floor as she looked down anxiously, grabbing onto both of her jacks and tapping the ends together nervously as her face reddened to try and keep them from coiling. "B-But are you sure you won't regret this? You're still kinda high, I don't want you to just forget this conversation happened…"
Stepping towards the purplette, Izuku brought his hand up to caress her cheek and lock eyes with her. Both of them unconsciously held their breath as their close proximity made their heartbeats seem to beat together in tandem, louder than ever before.
"How about I prove that this is what I want…" He whispered before crashing his lips against hers as he wrapped his free hand around her waist and pulled her body closer to his own. Kyouka accepted his kiss with fever as she began to return his act with just as much vigor as him, running her hands through his soft pillowy hair as their lips danced together.
Breaking away from the kiss for air, Kyouka giggled softly as she tried to catch her breath. "Hehe… I think you've proven yourself. God, my head feels fuzzy after that."
Izuku smiled, "Yeah, I think love just does that to you. It feels fuzzy like being high."
