Summary
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust the Hermits. He did - or at least he wanted to. It was more that he didn’t know how they would react. Hermitcraft was full of a variety of people, many of them distinctly not human.
But none of them had wings. And Grian had never shown another Player his wings since he had been given them. He didn’t know how they would react. Logically, he knew that the most likely possibility was that they wouldn’t care. They would go about their day and wouldn’t pay him any heed, wings or no wings.
But emotionally, deep down, he was terrified. The wings were from Them. The wings were a reminder of Them, they were a reminder of what had happened. What if the other Hermits didn’t see the wings as just another hybrid trait? What if they shunned him for wings he didn’t deserve, weren’t born with?
He was terrified to show them. Terrified that they would push him away, that he would lose the tentative home he had slowly begun carving out.
Thus the chicken head.
