It was indeed the very item they were looking for! A golden figuring with glittering eyes. He processed the fact that the eyes were red rather than green a second after he picked it up.
The second he did, the whole world went black. He yelped, staggering backwards and for a second felt fingers pressing on his neck. He hit the ground with a loud thud and found himself staring up at the ceiling.
For a long moment he felt cold. Unnaturally cold, like a ghost touch or something much, much worse.

“None of us will!” Skizz said, pulling his hands free and tugging again. Impulse grabbed his wrist again, forcing them both to still.
“Get them to safety. They need you,” Impulse said.

Grian was still cold, and the accompanying fatigue would linger for a few days. It wasn’t worse than anything he’d experienced before though, and wasn’t why he was feeling increasingly uneasy with every jolt and bump under the van.
No, the main reason for his unease and discomfort was sitting in the front seat of the van. They hadn’t been the only ones raiding the haunted house; they’d picked up a stranger who had introduced himself as Jimmy. The others had insisted on giving him a lift back to where he live, but Grian had seen the scar on his wrist.
A mirror of the brand on Grian’s own wrist--a rectangle with broken corners. He hadn’t thought about it for a long time, but seeing the same scar on a stranger had jarred him. He’d fought hard to get away, and to stay away, the thought of running into anyone also from the Watcher’s Compound made him feel sick.

“How do I know?” The kid spits, knife raised again, trembling violently. His eyes are wet, angry and pleading and piercing right down into Grian’s soul.
“...If I can fly?” Grian asks, confused. His heart is beating fast.
The boy shakes his head violently, taking a lurching step forward, now only a few feet away. Something about his eyes almost seems familiar, but the thought is fleeting. The knife looks sharp. The child is crying, slow tears that barely have an effect on his voice.
“No,” the kid says forcefully. “How do I know you’re not a zombie?”
OR,
A young Scar fresh from a world overtaken by zombies stumbles through The Rift onto Hermitcraft, and is quickly adopted by the rest of the Hermits, who have no idea who he actually is.
An older Scar grapples with a past that he'd rather forget, all while trying to avoid the version of himself he left behind a long time ago. -

He and Stanley are trying this new thing in the wake of the loop ending called being honest with each other. Sometimes uncomfortably so. He knows his brother was a drug mule for a time; Stanley knows he lied repeatedly to his only real friend for over a year. It’s shockingly refreshing, actually, to be so open. Every day, Stanford finds himself trusting what Stanley says just a little easier, drops the armor he’s constructed just a little more. He feels lighter than he has in years.
But he doesn’t tell Stanley about missing Bill.

His fingers tremble slightly as he shifts his grip, the leather cold and unforgiving against his skin. The silence feels alive, pressing against him, whispering to him that he could just turn the key, drive away, leave it all behind.

On their way to the Arctic in the Stan o' War, Ford and Stan dock at an Alaskan mining town for supplies. Before they know it, they're pulled into a hunt for a mysterious creature that's possessing and killing local oil field workers.
Basically an excuse to write lots of sibling banter, high-stakes cryptid hunts, and that sweet, sweet hurt/comfort.
