luz unassumingly rocked back and forth , gently hitting hir thighs as hunter continued to ramble on about the history and benefits of wild magic . their eyes scanned the living room as aer speech became white noise , landing where the communal stim toys would normally be . it wasn't like fizz was bored , no , not at all ! sie loved when her friends were comfortable enough to infodump to them ! sie just needed something else to do while he was listening . but , amity was using the tangle while she read , raine was using the bike chain , and the pop-it was occupied by the very kid she was listening to . fizz messed with the cuff of their shorts with one hand , and picked at their skin with the other , slowly getting lost in hir thoughts .
hunter looked up from where ae were lying on the floor , putting aside the toy and moving lil rascal to sit up and look at hir . ae raised an eyebrow and softly nudged luz's knee . " hey , human . are you , um , alright ? " ae asked , reaching for aer chew necklace instinctively . luz seemed to ignore him , so he tapped their shoulder instead . still no response . he huffed , and rascal flew up to the human , hovering above hir and chirping softly . that seemed to get them out of it . fizz looked up at the bird , and then down at hunter , face lit up the same way it normally was whenever sie had an idea , a bad one . hunter averted aer eyes rather quickly , not liking the sudden eye contact or the tone it portrayed . he let out a sigh , slowly looking back up at her .
" what did you think of ? "
luz gasped , immediately turning their body to face it . " okay so , i was thinking , since we are kind of a happy home of criminals , and we tend to get into a lot of trouble , we should have a family group chat ! " she grinned, clapping hir hands and bouncing up and down on the couch cushion . " i think it would be fun ! plus , i could send you guys silly cat memes all day ! "
now , hunter wasn't going to turn his sist-- friend down just yet , but ae had no clue what a group chat was . and apparently , its confusion was all over his face , because luz immediately launched into explaining human family group chats to him . the concept was new and incredibly odd , but ae were pretty sure he got the point .
" so , you gather a bunch of witches with scrolls and they all message each other at once ? " ae asked , to which luz nodded . " and you expect it to not devolve into chaos ? " hunter snorted , but didn't turn down the idea . luz shrunk back into the couch , and hunter immediately felt bad . " sounds like a headache , but i guess it'll be a break from the usual mind numbing chaos . i'm in . " it teased , which caused luz to squeal , clapping and reaching for their scroll . after a few seconds , hunter could feel his own scroll buzz in aer back pocket . ae pulled it out , and the notification read , ' warriorofpeace has added you to a group chat ! '
this was going to be hell while it lasted . but hey , luz seemed happy with hir idea . why not let them have it ? its scroll buzzed again , and he looked down at aer phone once again .
warriorofpeace has changed 'Amity Blight' and nine other nicknames !
that was concerning . he opened up the chat to figure out what luz had changed their names to , only to stare up at the human with a disapproving glare .
" bird brain ? really ? that was the best you could come up with ? " ae teased , which made luz giggle a bit . " look , i made the group chat , so i pick the names . and i never tell lies , which means all my nicknames are only truths . " fizz grinned down at it , legs softly swinging back and forth as ae laughed , going to send the first message .
birdbrain : hello family groupchat.
auntieraven : I wasn't aware we had one of these . Hello all .
auntieraven : I also wasn't aware you considered us family , Hunter ?
birdbrain : i'll answer your questions when you stop using capital letters.
birdbrain : luz had informed me that this is the 'cool way to type.'
owlmom : woah! family groupchat!! seems harmless enough. luz made this?
warriorofpeace : yepyep !! me and hunter had this idea !
birdbrain : correction , sie had the idea and i gently encouraged it .
warriorofpeace : me and hunter had this idea !
owlmom : well , this should be fun .
