Bruce has had a very long and tedious day. He has been in and out of meetings since 7:30 a.m ( it was his own fault there were so many because of how often he missed them due to "other responsibilities" ) after what was a long night of patrol ( aka his "other responsibilities ). The only thing that was getting him through the day was the fact that his last meeting on the schedule is in Metropolis. That meant instead of bothering with a random fancy overpriced hotel like he usually did in these situations, he is going to stay at his boyfriend's apartment.
Clark is still at the office by the time he gets there, editing articles and etc, so he let himself in and passed out on the couch ( beds are for closers ). A couple of hours later, he heard the door open and shut. When he looked up to make sure it is Clark ( god bless the poor soul that tried to break into Superman's home while Batman is sleeping on his couch ) he saw him putting his things away. He noticed that he was only using one hand, but was too tired to think about the reason why that may be.
"Bruce."
"What?" he asked, his face back down on the cushion.
"Look, I caught a bird."
He could hear muffled chirping coming from Clark's general direction.
"That's nice…" he shot up, "Wait? What? Put it back!"
"Awe, can't I keep him?"
"Clark, you can not keep a wild animal in your apartment?"
"Don't you have a pet cow?"
"That's different."
"How so?"
"Because they live on the grounds of the manor, not inside. You can't even have normal pets here, it's in your lease!"
"But I already named him…"
And that was how Bruce ended up taking "Star" back to the manor, where she lives happily alongside Bat-Cow. Alfred even installed a luxurious birdcage, though it is never closed, for her to stay in when she pleases. Dick and Jason teased him about "getting soft in his old age" ( a statement they soon came to regret during their next training session ) but the big white smile his love made when he broke down and agreed to keep her made it worth it. Clark even makes sure to visit every once in a while to see how Star is doing.
