Work Text:

"Where did you go?" Quackity had asked him the very second he opened his eyes, the latter's blue tracksuit a contrast to the eerie mist of whites and grays he perceived the last couple...years?

"Karl, c'mon man you're scaring me. Is there something wrong?" He snaps his heads back to reality, I'm here I made it, and focuses back on the person in front of him.

"Yeah, yeah, sorry about that I think It's just the sun...making me dizzy" Karl answers "Hm, alright. Let's get you near a lake or something, we'll meet up with Sapnap there. He says he's got a surprise so why not drink up while we wait" Quackity tells him with a smile as he pulls on his sweater, leading him to their destination

"Quackity! Karl!" Sapnap calls from the distance "Hurry up! It's gonna get cold!" He shouts and disappears as he hunches down seeming to grab something from the ground

"What'd you have for us?" Questions Quackity, now holding Karl's hand in his own "A little something, didn't know what you guys like so I brought everything, and now I guess it's not a little something anymore" Sapnap rambles on, pink tinting his cheeks as he grins

Before them was a large picnic blanket filled with plates of various kinds of food and pastries, drinks and whatnot. Karl stares for a while, taking it all in, not noticing the way his hand felt cold again.

"Karl!"

he hears someone call out to him

"Come here!"

and he fell

Time was ruthless, taking so much and giving so little. It never gave him a chance, let alone any ounce of it at all. He falls and falls until finally he hits the ground or at least the end

"How was it, Jacobs? Did you have fun?" The scribbled note on the book taunts him, he places it back down on the ground and gets up. He surveys the room and just like every other day he ever knew and remembered, he's back. Pristine glass and Ivory walls, delicate grass and a swing set as his only source of entertainment

The Inbetween, a home now turned prison. "It was..." he starts to say but his eyes stopped him midway when he felt a trickle of hope escape down his cheeks and onto the page, only to dry and vanish "...All I could ever ask for" he finishes

Walking out and going through grand hallways and emptiness, muscle memory bringing him atop a tower and peering out a window. Where a small vase containing a meticulously placed flower sits beside him, "I'm already starting to forget them, and yet here I am remembering how to get up here still after so much time" he breathes

The sunset, sunrise, or sky's epinephrine he witnesses whenever it bursts into shades of white and back to blue always did mesmerize him. He sits in a lonely tower with a lonely friend, a flower, and sits there for an eternity's worth of time

Then he heard a voice asking so curiously and innocently it hurts

"Why would I forget you?"

He could laugh, cry, or both. Because at that moment he knew- he knows who's talking, but his mind erased every possible answer he can have in his hands before he notices. Now he stays silently wondering, mind wandering about, as he finds himself asking

"Who are you?"
