Now that the Sgrub sessions were finally over... Now that they were finally out of the dream bubbles... Now that they were finally on Earth C... They coule finally reconnect, Vriska and Equius.
The strong, musclebeast-like indigoblood had always fancied Vriska, and the once eight-eyed girl had fancied him right back. Neither of them had had the chance to pursue each other. When they were meer grubs they'd been best friends. It was just the two of them against the world. Vriska was the rough and tumble type, always getting into fights and going on adventures; and Jebus knew her lusus didn't treat her right. Equius was a refined type, a rock to lean on; she always came to him when she needed to be patched up. He was pale for her, and she was flushed for him.
However, as they grew up, they grew apart. The bloodcaste system became so important to Equius, and it turned Vriska's flushed feelings into pitch ones. She respected him so much for his strength and his expertise with robots, but she couldn't handle his belief in the bullshit caste nonsense. When they were thirteen, right before the Sgrub session, they'd started to bond again. But that damn game tore them apart once more.
Now, the two were relaxing together in a hill. They were on a red-and-white checkered picnic blanket, having just finished their meals. Their plates were laid beside them, forks and knives set neatly on top alongside their balled up napkins. Crumbs dappled the picnic blanket more than they did the plates, but the two hadn't been worried about table manners, they'd been worried about spending time together, which they had.
They sat side by side, Equius' hand on top of Vriska's. She pulled it out from under and set it on top, giggling to herself. He looked at her, confused, and gently lifted her hand off of his using his other hand, and place his back over top of hers. Once again, Vriska placed her hand on top of his.
"What do you think you are doing, Vriska?" Equius asked, his voice flat and low. There was no inflection to it all. It always seemed to go "straight," while others would go up and down as needed.
Vriska smirked at him, giggling harder. She tucked a long strand of hair behind her ear and said: "Putting my hand on top of yours. Why do you ask?"
"Because," he rumbled, "My hand has to go on top of yours."
"And why is that?" Vriska already knew what was coming, but it was fun to play this game with him.
"Because I am in indigoblood, and you are a cobaltblood. I am right above you on the caste system."
Vriska rolled her eyes at him, "Equius," She reasoned, "You know that's all BS, right? We live on a new planet now, without any of this bloodcaste stuff." She reached forward and tucked a stray strand of hair behind his ear, his mouth scrunching up and his face turning blue. Vriska's eyes darted around as she examined each of his features - his yellow eyes, his long eyelashes, his large, crooked nose, his thin lips, and his crooked teeth - and smiled gently. "You know what is important?"
"Me having power over you." He stated. "I completely respect you as a person, but it is in the order of things."
Vriska raised her eyebrows at him, and her jaw dropped. "Did you hear anything I just said?" Her mouth curled into a smile of pity. "Come on, Eq." She lowered her hand again and placed it on top of his once more. She looked down at their hands and sighed. "Can't you see? We are bigger than that."
"No, we are not." Equius said, "No one is. Not even us."
Vriska groaned and placed her face into her hands. Right now, all she wanted to do was start a fight and win, but she held herself back. Instead, she screamed into the palms of her hands.
"Are you alright, Vriska?"
Vriska pulled her hands down her face, cupping her mouth, and stared at Equius blankly. "Yep. Fantastic."
"I can tell that you are lying."
The ex-pirate's hands fell into her lap. With a tint of sarcasm she said, "You have great deduction skills, Eq."
"Thank you, Vriska." Said Equius, missing it.
"You're welcome."
Vriska and Equius stared at each other, eyes interlocking. Vriska started to laugh again. Really, really laugh. Her head fell back and she cackled like a witch, snorting all the way.
Equius was in awe of the girl before him. His face turned a shade of blue as he studied her features - her yellow eyes, her short eyelashes, her small, perfect nose, her thin lips, and her perfect teeth. Even the way her hair fell away from her face - and felt beads of sweat trickle down his neck.
"Uh, Vriska..."
Vriska stopped laughing, save a few "hehes," and wiped some blood away from her eyes using her pointer finger. "Yes, Equius?"
"You're really, erm, pretty."
Vriska's cheeks turned a shade of muddy blue and she smiled at him. "Thank you, Equius. You're really handsome."
Equius' mouth seemed to crumple up when he smiled, displaying his crooked and missing teeth. "Thank you, Vriska."
The sun had started to go down behind them, casting the trolls in a wave of orange-yellow light. Vriska's heart began to pound in her chest as she gazed at the boy in front of her. The light captured all the right angels of his face and highlighted how toned his muscled were. Vriska's eyes practically glittered at the sight. Without a second thought, she started to lean in.
Equius was completely taken aback by Vriska's sudden lean in. He didn't know quite what to do, and he started to sweat harder. He could hear his moirail's voice in the back of his head.
Kiss her, dummy! Do it!
So, he did. He leaned forward, their lips connecting.
A new warmth blossomed in both of their chests, a type of warmth that they had both been seeking for so long. They hadn't even known that one would cause that for the other. Almost instinctually, they reached to cup each others faces.
Equius' lips tasted like the milk he'd been drinking minutes before, and how she hated milk, but she refused to pull away. She'd been waiting for this moment forever.
Vriska's lips tasted uniquely... Vriska. Equius pressed himself into her and pulled her closer as if he was trying to taste more of her. It was the only thing he wanted to taste for the rest of his life. Sweat pooled over his skin like rain.
Blood trickled down Vriska's face as she began to cry. Her chest swelled with warmth as if to cry, Finally, I've found you. As her tears touched the indigoblood's hand, he pulled away.
His glasses were a little fogged up, so he pulled them down. "Vriska, are you okay?"
Vriska grinned and nodded, smearing the stream away as best as she could. "Yes. I've just been waiting to do that for so long."
Equius flashed another one of his scrunched up, wrinkled grins at her and exhaled. "Likewise."
Vriska leaned to the side, trying to place her head on hi shoulder. Equius pulled her in. He tucked her hair behind her ear and sighed.
"Vriska, I think I understand why the bloodcaste system is irrelevant."
Vriska's lips curled up and she nodded. "I knew you'd come around."
