Work Text:
It was an insanely hot summer day. The one even islanders couldn't stand for long. There was no wind, no break, just the cruel heat. So after trying some of the regular sword sparring in the morning, they decided to retreat into their secret cave. That was the only place they knew was cool for sure.
After having some time in silence, both quite exhausted, Sora spoke first.
"Hey, Riku.. How do people.. do stuff?"
"What stuff?" Riku watched his friend going in circles examining the drawings the walls of this place were covered with. Remnants of their entire life.
"Well, you know.. like kissing," Sora stopped abruptly and looked back at Riku.
He was 13 and he was curious. Riku was 14 and he was.. restless.
"Ehm, Sora, what do you need it for?" he looked surprised, but just a little. He was that sort of guy who can take any kind of absurd question with stoic face. Sora knew that.
"Nothing in particular, but I just can't get it. And how am I supposed to know? I can't ask Kairi, she won't understand."
"I can't say I quite understand either," Riku glanced toward where Sora was standing now. There was that drawing, he was reluctant to look at even. Without any good reason, really. But it just somehow always made him feel.. sad and lonely. He shook his head as if to his own thoughts, noticing that Sora looked disappointed:
"What exactly you want to know?"
Sora grinned happily, ready to burst into all kind of things that were bothering him, but Riku raised his hand as a warning:
"Just try to keep it simple. Cause.. well. It is all a theory to me too."
Sora nodded looking very seriously. It was funny to watch. He hesitated a little. Wondering where to start.
"Can you.. can you just... show me?"
"What?!" That was that sort of question that broke even Riku's resilience.
"Well, you know how I am better at practice really. So.. I get that you are not a.. professional, but you know things, and you get them quickly. And.. everything is just simpler when it is with you"
Riku blinked. And then he looked at that drawing once more. "Alright," he said before realising.
"Alright? As if you will do it for me?" Now was Sora's turn to be surprised.
"I will," Riku said quietly but firmly.
"Oh.. So, what should I do?"
"Well, you can't kiss anyone from that far away. So come closer"
"Right," Sora hurried up to Riku's side, but then he folded his hands over his head and giggled nervously. "What's next?"
Riku sighed:
"You need to be closer. So you could reach their.. my lips easily."
Sora raised his hand and touched Riku's upper lip lightly with his index finger. "I can!"
"With your lips, silly," Riku started to regret all of it very quickly. But there was no turning back from the promise.
"Oh! Oh... yeah.." Sora was not sure how to continue from there, so he dropped down where Riku was sitting and moved himself as close as he could. There were only inches between their faces now. Sora hold his breath and leaned in.
"Hey, wait!"
Sora stopped, confused.
"You have to close your eyes first," Riku explained.
"What for?" Sora looked puzzled.
"Well, you just have to. It is not what you see, but what you feel. Your eyes will just confuse you more and distract from what matters."
Sora still looked uncertain.
"Just trust me. You shouldn't.. practice wrong"
"Ok, I'm closing them, but so you know - I can't really see your face anymore either"
"I know. You don't need to"
"If you say so.."
There was that moment, brief and natural, where everything sort of turned upside down for a moment, or so Riku felt. He remembered Sora's lips touching his own at last, he remembered pressing tighter against as a response. And then he sort of lost track. That was pure, delicate and very soft, but at the same time so intense and sharp. He parted his lips just enough to fit more naturally into Sora's and then he realised or more likely felt that Sora was smiling and at the very first time he felt embarrassed. He leaned back, breaking the kiss.
"Wow," Sora looked dazed but happy. "That is really not that hard"
Riku remained silent.
"But wait.." now Sora started to look really worried all of a sudden. "Does it mean it was my first kiss?"
"No, it doesn't" Riku said quietly. He looked straight into Sora's eyes and added: "It only counts if you are in love"
