Work Text:
Will finishes his morning routine of watering their flowers in the garden, the sunrise to his back as he makes his way up the porch steps and into their home. He expects Hannibal to be in the kitchen starting on breakfast, but is surprised to find him relaxed in one of their living room chairs, his eyes closed and head leaned slightly to the side. He dresses down nowadays, a soft beige cashmere sweater with dark slacks, his hair falling across his forehead. Will leans against the doorway and regards him fondly, noticing his tablet is open on the side table beside him. He only catches the tail end of the song Hannibal is engrossed in.
Hannibal slowly opens his eyes with a smile, having been aware of Will watching him. Will walks over and stands in front of the chair, pushing Hannibal’s bangs out of his face. “Did you enjoy what you were listening to?”
Hannibal nods, reaching up to rest a hand on Will’s hip and asks, “Are you familiar with ABBA?”
“Some, yeah. I would say probably only their most popular songs.”
“They’ve just released new material for the first time in forty years.”
Will’s eyebrows raise slightly, taking in the information. “I take it you're a fan?”
“I am, yes.”
Even after all this time, Will relishes in learning something new about his lover. He backs up slightly as Hannibal begins to stand, taking one of Will’s hands in his own, his other hovering over the tablet. “Will you dance with me, my love?”
A few years ago Will would have hesitated, but now he gives Hannibal a small kiss and a nod. Hannibal hits play on the tablet, and gently brings Will to the center of their living room. Will rests his head on Hannibal’s chest, his comfort space, and wraps his arms around his waist.
“I still have faith in you, I see it now, through all these years that faith lives on, somehow…”
Will hums softly, enjoying the sound, as Hannibal inhales his scent, and places a small kiss to his head.
“There was a union of heart and mind, the likes of which are rare and, oh, so hard to find…”
That lyric hits Will a little, it reminds him of the bluff, the peace he felt at finally being sure of himself and what he was doing.
“Do I have it in me? I believe it is there. For I know I hear a bittersweet song, in the memories we share...I still have faith in you, and I will say, I never really thought I'd feel this way...but I remind myself, of who we are, how inconceivable it is to reach this far…”
Will closes his eyes, the voice singing is beautiful, and he can relate, he didn’t ever dream they would come to this point. Embracing in a home of their own, only love shared between them. Although he wouldn’t consider what they’re doing as dancing, more swaying together side to side, he can't think of anywhere else he’d rather be.
“We do have it in us, a new spirit has arrived, the joy and the sorrow, we have a story and it survived…”
“And we need one another, like fighters in a ring, we're in this together, passion and courage is everything…”
Will’s breath hitches at the crescendo of the song, raising his head to lock eyes with Hannibal to find him already looking at him, tears welling in his eyes.
“I still have faith in you, it stands above, the crazy things we did, it all comes down to love…”
Will studies Hannibal’s face, he has never gotten used to how beautiful Hannibal is. Hannibal is looking at him so fondly, an openness to his expression only Will is privy to witness. The sun is still slowly rising, and shining through the glass windows, painting them in a soft orange glow. The world is waking up around them, ordinary people starting their day, but Will feels locked in time, stuck in this everlong dance with Hannibal he never wants to end.
“...and we still have it in us, we've only just begun, we stand on a summit, humble and grateful to have survived…”
“I still have faith in you, it stands above the crazy things we did, it all comes down to love...do I have it in me?”
The song comes to a natural end, but their embrace does not.
“I will always have faith in us, Will.”
Will can only nod, tears starting to form in his own eyes, and brings his arms up to wrap around Hannibal’s neck, his heart beating fast as he leans in for a kiss that Hannibal earnestly returns. He slowly parts his lips as the kiss deepens, tasting the salt as both of their tears begin to fall. He pulls back, only enough to whisper, “let’s go back to bed.” Hannibal nods his agreement, keeping one arm wrapped around Will’s waist, as they make their way up the stairs with both of their hearts full.
