Summary
I’ve been working on some version of this poem for nearly five years now, so there are more drafts of it than I can count. It feels like it might finally be time to share one.
This piece is inspired by one of my favorite vignettes, A Case of You, by ChekhovsRazor—one of my favorite writers in the Hannibal fandom. GO READ IT NOW! I’ve probably revisited it several times a year since it was first published in 2020. Their story, in turn, was inspired by an artwork by nephila_clavipes, an artist I used to follow on both Twitter and Tumblr before their accounts disappeared. As far as I know, their Redbubble still exists—and luckily, so does their work in my space, in the form of stickers, postcards, and art prints. I’ll always remember them as effortlessly cool, and I still miss the way they used to take on the “antis” of Hannibal Twitter with such precision a few years back.
But I digress.

However, although scars heal over time, Will finds that some things refuse to be buried, and becomes increasingly desperate for answers that only one person is able to provide.

Now that does piques his curiosity. What on earth could have unsettled Hannibal Lecter -- the cannibal, il mostro di firenze, the Chesapeake Ripper -- so profoundly that it left him in such a state of disarray?Hannibal inclines his head as though confessing to something obscene.
“My students informed me today that I am… outdated. That I ought to familiarize myself with the tools of modern artistry.” His mouth tightens, ever so slightly. “They suggested, with some enthusiasm, that I likely do not even know how to ‘extrude a mesh in blender’” -

When Will wakes, there’s nothing left for him. He’s unable to speak and his body is in pieces. There’s a touch that tells him one thing. Hannibal is there.
Sometimes being with someone weighs heavier than their absence. Sometimes you just want to stay down in the depths, but if Will knows anything for certain, it's that most things end where they start. And that he has no choice but to ball his fists, cuss himself out, follow suit and hold on tight.

After the fall Will and Hannibal end up in an isolated shack in Nova Scotia. Their relationship evolves with every place they move to. They push past pain killers, close proximity, bad dreams, curtainless windows and dead memories. Past is past, they can only keep going.

There was a point in time, shortly after they fell off of the cliff, that Hannibal couldn't talk. Neither of them really knew why, whether it was due to a head injury–Lord knows they both had their fair share–or maybe the shock of being thrown off of a cliff by the man whom he adored shortly after their first joint kill. Whatever the reason, the first few months after they'd plunged into the icy Atlantic, Hannibal was mute.
