Pumpkin Spice

Summary:

The Barista gets Kaiba and Atem's drinks messed up. Mini prideshipping fall ficlet.

Work Text:

“I’ve got a venti pumpkin spice latte and one venti black coffee for Kevin and Adam!” Kaiba glanced up from his phone, glaring at the barista that was making awkward eye contact with him from across the counter. She gave him a nervous smile, beckoning him over to the prepared drinks. Beside him, Atem chuckled.

“Pretty sure those are for us, Seto.” He grinned, amusement gleaming in his bright crimson eyes. Kaiba scoffed.

“This is why I don’t like visiting the American coffee shops, they can never get our names correct.” The brunette growled, roughly snatching his cup off the counter. Atem followed closely behind, giving the barista an apologetic smile as he retrieved his drink.

It wasn’t too often Kaiba took Atem on his international business trips, citing how much of a distraction he was with his constant requests to waste time sightseeing…among other things. The crisp late fall air chilled the streets of New York, blowing dried leaves around the two as they walked down the sidewalk. Atem shivered, pulling his scarf over his nose and mouth. Kaiba smirked, amused at his partner’s discomfort.

“Drink some of that nasty coffee you just had to have.” The CEO teased, earning a glare from his smaller counterpart. Atem huffed, pulling his scarf down and bringing the cup to his lips. He had barely taken a sip before he spat the liquid out, tongue out in disgust.

“Ugh! They mixed our drinks up! How can you drink this awful stuff!?” Atem hissed, wiping his tongue on a hand. “Hurry and trade me cups, the taste is lingering!” Kaiba raised a brow.

“It’s just as well, I doubt you’d be able to truly appreciate all the subtle notes in a pumpkin spice latte anyways. He laughed, swapping cups with the former pharaoh. He took a sip, enjoying the sweetness of the fall specialty. Beside him, Atem was frantically sipping his black coffee.

“Much better… how you can stomach that sweet stuff is beyond me.” The shorter duelist said. Kaiba merely shrugged before taking another sip. He frowned.

“Damnit, you drank all the whip cream.”
