Chapter Text
You can see it with the lights out, lights out...

Remus had always felt very lucky to have become so close with Sirius, he’d always been overshadowed by James and never felt like he’d ever be that close with anyone, especially Sirius Orion Black.
I mean for god’s sake, he’s named after a star. Remus had just assumed that Sirius only hung out with him while he found someone else, but after 5 years he’d finally accepted that he wasn’t going anywhere. Sirius’ persuasion was one of the defining qualities that made him, him. Even when it didn’t seem like the best idea, Black was always pushing against any force in his way and had become the black sheep of the Black family.
For years they tried to rein him in, even tie him down, but Sirius never lost any fight in him. So much so that his family, though never thought possible, gave up and just pushed him out of the way to let him do whatever he wanted. That’s what led to the shed. Shed is sort of an understatement. It’s basically another house behind the Black mansion that they call the shed because anything with less than five bedrooms is like sleeping on the street for the Blacks. Sirius was just moving in when he and Remus first noticed how easy it would be to sneak in and out of it. The decision was settled from there.
The next night Remus had told his parents that he was staying at Sirius’, leaving out the part that Sirius’ parents were unaware of him coming, and went on his way. One of the many reasons why it is so easy to sneak in is because the Blacks like their privacy, every single one of them dating back hundreds of years. This means that they made sure to build their mansion surrounded by a forest spanning for miles, so all Remus had to do is know how to get through it and he’d be led straight towards Sirius.
He found his way quite easily with Sirius’ guide, and knocked on the window facing the darkened trees behind him. Sirius’ thin face appeared in the glass, a look of pure joy on his face so fast Remus was almost knocked back in surprise. His striking, silvery blue eyes lit up and he smiled widely, causing a flutter of excitement to rise in Remus’ chest. Sirius waved his hand, signalling for Remus to enter as he ran around the side of the house to open the door.
‘Rem! You came!’ Sirius exclaimed delightedly.
He launched himself at Remus as he walked in, almost toppling both boys onto the floor; luckily Remus’ advanced strength kept them upright. Sirius was the most excitable boy in the world, and still acted like he did when they were twelve even though they were well on their way to eighteen.
‘Yeah of course I came mate, calm down.’ Remus replied to Sirius’ ambush. ‘Looks great in here.’
His eyes examined the newly decorated room. Everything was mostly black or brown leather, as that was all the furniture the Blacks owned, but with flourishes of Sirius charm around the place: guitars along the wall, a giant shelf just for all his records, his beloved record player and fairy lights strung across every wall, almost stitching the room together.
‘Spent way too much time on it, got nothin’ else to do though’ Sirius responded.
Remus had noticed Sirius’ once perfect pronunciation of his words had been slowly slipping away, probably influenced by Remus. The thought made him smirk to himself.
‘But now you’re here!’ he finished, sitting down on the leather couch and inviting Remus next to him.

The pair of them settled back into their usual banter for hours, talking until the room went dark, with the only light source being the soft flickering of fairy lights. It was around midnight when the light-hearted jokes died down into a serene ambience.
Sirius was vacantly strumming a tune on his guitar, meanwhile Remus was working the coffee machine that Sirius kept in the corner of the room. They drank from two mugs, feeling the bitter liquid warm their throats.
It was only later on when Remus regretted the decision to drink coffee at such an absurd hour, when they found themselves restless and fidgety. The sun had set many hours ago, yet not a hint of sleepiness wore over either boy. They were sprawled across Sirius’ bed; Remus laying up against the pillows, Sirius horizontal below, when they settled into a warm silence.
Sirius looked up and caught the other boy's eye. Sirius’ eyes, though already light, seemed to always shine with mischief. His eyes always told more than his words would.
‘Can we go out now?’ Remus asked at the same time Sirius leapt up and said ‘Let’s go outside.’
They both erupted into giggles and started to put their shoes on, Remus’ doc martens and Sirius’ converse. They stumbled out of the door trying to be as quiet as possible, although the shed was so far away that no noise they made could reach the main house.
