Work Text:
Midoriya rushed into the classroom, looking frazzled.
“Sorry I’m late, my alarm didn’t go off!”
He called to Shouta who nodded, Midoriya’s blue-green eyes scanned the room.
Wait… blue-green eyes… Midoriya’s eyes were just green though?
Shouta shrugged it off.
“Instead of regular classes a memory searching specialist is here to help us see if there is a UA traitor in our class. Do NOT suspect your fellow classmates of being a traitor and then exclude them now that you have this knowledge. Their memories will be projected for me and Miss Fujisaki to see.”
Shouta announced, crawling out of his sleeping bag to stand at the front of the room. He surveyed the student’s reactions to search for discomfort. Midoriya and Todorki looked uncomfortable
“Hi! My name is Ayano Fujisaki! My quirk is memory projection, I can project a person’s memories. I work with the police and heroes most often to help abuse victims who can't relive their trauma through words, and my quirk only projects the memories to everyone else, and the victim doesn’t have to be in the room.”
The woman explained, stepping into the room, heels clicking against the tile with each step.
“.Aoyama, you first.”
Shouta ordered, the aforementioned student nodding and standing up with a toss of glitter as spark walked to the front.
They went through each student in seat number order. It went fine until they reached Todoroki.
“Todoroki? You’re never going back to that asshole's house again, go to Nedzu’s office, he’ll sort out the paperwork to make you a ward of UA permanently.”
Shouta rubbed the crying kid’s back.
They then continued with Hagakure’s and Bakugou’s memories before reaching Midoriya’s.
“Can I stay in this room? I feel like I'll need to explain some stuff.”
He asked, shouta and Ayano nodded, and the boy sat in a chair at the front of the room.
Shouta stood anxiously as Ayano started her quirk, worried for what would come of Midoriya’s memories.
It started with a young boy that was dying on what looked to be a battlefield, dying body being held by a redheaded man, and some strange creature floated next to them.
“See the world on my behalf, to the heavens may you fly.”
The boy sung quietly as he died.
The weird small floating creature then started glowing, and appeared in a similar form to the now dead boy, but now bearing wings.
“Never again will another wear Mondstadts crown.”
The now winged boy said strongly, tears in his eyes, as he glowed with new power.
The memory blacked out before another part started.
“Vanessa, please, stand up for your freedom! You can’t continue to live like this!”
The boy with two braids framing the sides of his face begged. Shouta had to guess that this was Midoirya. He was now clad in green, white, and gold fabric, head to toe. But the wings were nowhere to be seen.
“Venti, I can’t. If I do, they'll hurt my family. I’ll keep fighting for them as long as my family stays safe.”
The redhead sighed, as if this was a common conversation.
“A conversation about freedom being held in a prison. A rather ironic idea, isn’t it.”
The boy, presumably named Venti mused, smiling sadly.
“We both know you could leave at any point, Venti.”
The redhead sighed.
“And leave you all alone!? I could never!”
Venti exclaimed.
The memory ended, before they were thrown into another one.
It was venti sitting on a cliff, playing a flute in the dead of night, overlooking the ocean in an unfamiliar place.
“Xiao…”
Midoriya murmured, smiling softly.
Shouta glanced over at him confusedly.
“What? Can’t a guy reminisce about a loved one?”
He rolled his eyes.
The memory ended and they were brought to another one.
Venti sat on a stone in front of a dilapidated statue under a tree, playing a lyre and telling a story.
He was then interrupted by a new approacher.
“Ah, how chained to your daily toiling you are, must you interrupt a bard’s leisure time?”
Venti glanced over at the person, who raised their lantern, and three odd creatures were summoned, crackling with lighting as they shot towards venti, who shook his head sadly and then floated on the wind to dodge them.
“Is your quirk not super strength!?”
Shouta exclaimed.
“My quirk is super strength, but my actual powers aren’t a quirk.”
Midoriya shook his head.
He then landed on the ground and summoned a bow with a wave of his hand, and loosed several arrows at the person before holding the bowstring back for a few seconds, causing the arrows to glow a bluish green color before they hit the person, releasing gusts of wind with each hit.
The memory ended yet again.
“Midoriya, how many important memories do you have?”
Shouta asked.
“Uhhh… about… two thousand six hundred years worth?”
Midoriya answered confusedly.
“What.”
Shouta said blankly. On the outside he looked only slightly frazzled, on the inside he was losing his shit.
“Hi, my name is Venti, or Barbatos. I’m the anemo archon, god of freedom and I got tossed into a fourteen year old’s body after getting my ass kicked by a frosty ice-cold bitch,”
Midori- no, Venti said, waving.
“I can prove it by doing this.”
Venti said, standing up, and taking a deep breath. The classroom filled with a cool fresh breeze as he started floating and glowing. His hair got longer and darker, turning blue and braiding itself, his blazer turned into a green cape, and his pants turned into green shorts with stockings under them. The red high tops he wore morphed into brown loafers. A hat appeared on his head. And the belt he wore got more ornate, and a gem hung from where it sat on his hip.
The breeze stilled, and Venti slowly came back down to the ground.
Ayano looked on in tired exasperation and shock.
“This is the weirdest fucking memory check I’ve ever done, I relaly want some fucking wine.”
She groaned.
“Ooh, what’s your favorite type of wine? I really like a nice dandelion wine, it’s a red wine and-”
Venti proceeded to go on a rant about different wines that left Ayano looking even more frazzled than before.
“I’m not being paid enough for this.”
Shouta sank to the floor, Ayano followed soon after.
“Oh cheer up, I’ll talk to Nezu, you two can cry about your sanity in here alone.”
Venti gave a small wave before stepping out of the door.
“Hey Ayano?”
“Hmm?”
“Do you think Nedzu will finally accept my resignation papers after this?”
“He actually might, now that this fucking headache will be his problem.”
Shouta’s drinking buddy responded.
