Prior to the mid-1940's, the onslaught of war continues. Battles continue to rage simultaneously across nations, and the cost of warfare is steep, depleting resources and lives. The countries of Russia and Germany form an alliance, so their armies won't eventually crumble. Both nations are to aid one another, and their troops will fight along side each other.
Gilbert is just one soldier among the millions, just a solider who commands other soldiers. As is Ivan. The German military base now house both Russian and German soldiers as result of the alliance. As both Lieutenant Colonels of their armies, some sort of understanding is formed through their first interactions. Through training and strategizing together, Ivan and Gilbert become acquaintances... and eventually friends... and then the line blurs. Through their shared hardships on the battlefield, and time spent alone together... Gilbert knows Ivan is not just his brother in arms anymore.
But the war is also changing. As the massacres get longer and more blood is shed, certain nations are gaining the upper hand.
Thus Gilbert and Ivan have one task: to stay afloat.
