Work Text:
They had decided to get some fresh air since it was one of the last warm summer nights left. Nile was the first one who noticed that they were missing one.
Nile: “Where’s Joe?”
Nicky: “He has probably found something only he finds interesting!! He won’t be that far behind.”
Nile: “How do you know that? I mean, we could have lost him streets ago.”
Nicky: “We always stay close to each other.”
Nicky was right about, that Joe only was only minutes behind them, but when he saw the sign and the café, he sighed with a smile.
Nile: “What’s wrong?”
Nicky: “Joe has found something, he finds interesting, so I do hope, you like coffee and cake because it's gonna be a long evening!!”
Nile: “What do you mean?”
Nicky cryptical: “Let’s get inside first then you see.”
Inside the café, Nicky was fast enough to get to the last table nearest the kitchen and ordered two cups of coffee with cake. Nile turned towards the stage when she heard a familiar voice.
Nile: “Seriously? Joe likes poetry slam.”
Nicky: “Everyone needs a hobby, and he likes to call it ‘educating the youth’ which can take hours.”
Nile found it impressive how eloquent Joe was once he found the flow and moved closer to the stage, while Nicky stayed back to eat more cake, but every time Joe won a round, he stood up to clap and cheer the loudest of them all.
Hours later, Joe was complaining.
Joe: “I got 2nd place? 2nd place, Nicolò? The winner didn’t even put in an effort.”
Nicky: “As someone once told me: Some battles you win and others you lose. Both are learning experiences!”
Nicky took Joe's hand.
Joe: “Did you just quote me?”
Nicky: “I only quote from the best poet, who has ever lived.”
For that reply, Joe kissed Nicky on the forehead.
Nile: “So, while Joe does poetry slam you eat cake?
Nicky: “As I said before: everyone needs a hobby.”
