Ilmestys | Chongyun x Reader

Summary:

Not all are evil in the very beginning.

Chongyun understands this further when he comes across a spirit who stubbornly refuses to cease even upon exposure to his Yang energy. Being around this spirit ruins his code, especially when he eventually finds out that the only proper way to appease said spirit is to allow her to finish her purpose before passing on.

Determined to properly conduct an exorcism for the first time, he relents and accompanies [Name], their quests entwining into one.

Purge everything of evil.

Such is the sole mission of an exorcist. No buts, no what-ifs, and no exceptions

As a person who knows the code, beliefs, and teachings by heart due to his upbringing, he is close to making absolutely no mistakes. Especially when his Yang energy is there to purge evil spirits into absolution and silence their wicked claws. He doesn't have to perform orthodox methods taught to him simply because his congenital positivity drives everything away within a particular proximity.

A blessing, it is, to those gnarled by the supernatural's discord—but a meddlesome drawback, in his opinion.

It is not that he is entirely against this overflowing Yang energy, no, he's thankful for it! It just thwarts away the opportunities of him being a normal exorcist that's naturally performing exorcisms by natural means. The closest he was to conducting one was drawing a symbolic circle—until the spirit fled and it's left incomplete.

So, with his positivity sticking to him until the day he passes, he finds no difficulty in purging evil. Consequently, he finds no excitement considering all he has to do is sit and tada!

He does not give up, however.

He just has to find a... stronger spirit to ward off, preferably one stacking in Yin energy that it'll put up a good fight against his exorcisms. To wish for such an occurrence is incredibly frowned upon, but can you blame him?

Other than the pleased feeling from being able to help someone, there is the harrowing void within that lacks self-satisfaction—fulfillment.

Being someone whose energy is sheer Yang has its downsides, too. Ah, but that's something to speak of some other time.

Incapable of finding a proper 'spirit' containing enough Yin in the lands of Liyue, he travels up north past the peaks and hills, to a place even he is not familiar of other than the fact that it's still a little close by the harbor. The eerie environment is awfully similar to Mingyun; crawling with a suffocating atmosphere possible only due to the presence of spirits.

Malignant ones.

Of course, it doesn't pose a problem to the young exorcist.

Half an hour walking through the outskirts of the place he now deems a ghost town and nearly all of the supernatural within the area has dispersed. Disappointment is a recurring sentiment, so he isn't affected too much by the lack of resolve of these spirits.

His disappointment was fleeting, however, because not too long was he soon exposed to a specific place in the rundown village that trembled with frostbite. One that is not because of his Cryo nor the current season, but because of the spike of malignancy.

Near a patch of earth that's stacked as if someone endeavored to create a tombstone out of earth, is a girl seemingly around his age. She does not flinch when he goes near and tells her that the village is not a place for civilians now, but she did flinch when he spoke of his purpose.

Chongyun is quick to bite back the tiny gasp that runs from his lips the second the girl spins and he sees exactly that she's not a person, but a spirit.

And she doesn't look as if she came in peace.

The supposed white of her eyes are tarry black and so are her pupils, the only one of color being the rings of her [c] irises. Her skin is of an unhealthy tint, with cracks littering the surface and chipping off like fragments to reveal a black and supposedly hollow interior.

The fact that an evil spirit hasn't fled from him that moment stuns him into place, his fingers suddenly trembling as he manages to materialize a striking talisman of blue, the symbols flaring with specific characters fitting for a rite of exorcism. Recovering from his moment of freezing, he builds up his courage, his leaking Yang surprisingly not a bother to the bundle of negativity in front of him.

If she hasn't fled then that means she's a lot more stronger than what he initially took her for.

"Evil be erased, you who shall be purged—"

A roar resounds and leaps, then in comes a wolf tinted with black and [c], its fur swaying and flickering as if it is out of black fire. Its fangs pierce through the talisman and it burns immediately, with the symbol of Yin and Yang vanishing. The wolf forces him to the ground and the exorcists panic for a split second, until the manifestation burns into smoke.

"Never thought I'd see Yang in the flesh," a voice dripping with satire comes and he realizes it belongs to the [c]-eyed spirit, a bemused and equally vexed smile on her lips, "An exorcist, at that."

Chongyun is swift to summon his claymore, the gold of the Archaic reflecting the rays of the setting sun as he flips himself up, adeptly landing on his feet with a follow-up attack imbued with the teachings of his father. Mind as still as water and force as blazing as an inferno, with these, purgation by means of martial arts is absolute.

But the enormous blade phases through and the spirit remains standing with a smirk, the [c] of her irises as sinister as the laugh that dripped with virulence.

Her gloved hand delivers an open palm against his chest, the contact bursting a black flame that fades in a second, though the effect is something that he felt instantaneously. Crippling with a kind of corruption that corrodes him from the inside, Chongyun rears back in shock and winces, the unfamiliar pain instilling a fear different from the norm.

Fortunately, his excessive positive energy is quick to get rid of.. of whatever that attack is, before it can create further damage.

Why are you not dispersing?

He couldn't speak it out loud, but by the ever-growing grin on the unnamed girl's visage, she knows.

"Looks like you've met your match. Sad to inform you that I won't allow you to get rid of me until I finish what I'm meant to do, though."

It only takes him seconds to understand the crux of her words, and when he does, he freezes. Suddenly, he has a quick recall of his wish during this year's Lantern Rite, and his icy blue eyes flare up with awe, fear, and determination.

Similar to his case, but being the stark opposite—the spirit in front of him is the very embodiment of Yin.
