Work Text:
Somehow, the number of storms increased. Sun became such a rare sight in the last few months, that even one ray could be a day savior. Clouds overtook the skies, crying almost every day, filling the air with humidity and petrichor, and sometimes, out of blue, screaming with thunder and lightning. Someone even joked that the skies are apparently in severe melancholy, crying and raging all the time. Maybe the gods were devastated by the actions of humans.
Or maybe the god.
No one actually asked Foolish about it. Not about the storms, not about the rains, not about the flooding of the river. Of course, someone has a hunch. Someone could connect the God of skies and the season of bad weather, but even if they did, they never talked about this, probably respecting his privacy. Maybe it was for the better. Maybe silence was for the better.
Beforehand, Eret never really minded the rain. Rainy days were their getaway from social events and meetings. They could sit home all day, not seeing anyone, just reading old books or doing some miscellaneous chores. But now... Now the rain was affecting them. And was affecting them hard and unusually.
The first time they noticed this was on the day Foolish mixed him up with his old friend. When God ran away, nervously, the rain poured down. Eret was standing there, looking in the black skies, drained, and cried. They didn’t know why. It’s not like they were the ones who lost a friend, right?
It continued after that. Each rain brought sadness. It was something emphatical, like watching a sad movie or calming a friend when it’s not exactly your emotion, but you can’t help it. It’s not like Eret didn’t cry before - they did it, a lot. But now... Now it was almost constant.
And storms were worse. It wasn’t silent cries, and overall sadness. It was a rage, burning from inside. All sadness was burning up, converting into anger. While thunder would raging outside, inside Eret would throw things around and scream, scream in unknown agony.
And then it would all end. The weather would calm down, and Eret would with it. Like nothing happened like it wasn’t them who were thrashing around just a few seconds ago.
And the only time Eret was the one who wanted to cry, the skies were clear. Sun was shining and all nature was content and calm in the morning after the banquet. After a long week of storms and rain, on the day of the Death of God, skies didn’t cry. Probably because the one who has been crying for them wasn’t here.
And then, when finally rain started to pour down, Eret smiled. Eret smiled through tears, knowing that God was back. He cries, but he’s alive. And their tears were in sync with the rain.
