Work Text:
Luz and Amity sat there, staring at the crib where their newborn baby was resting. It had been three whole days since her birth, and they still hadn’t thought of a name for her. The task of naming a child was much more difficult than either witch anticipated.
Before either of them could say a word, they heard a knock on their door. Amity got up to see who it was. She opened the door to see Eda standing there, accompanied by King.
“Hey, kiddo,” Eda greeted.
“Eda,” Amity said, “what brings you here?”
“We wanted to see the baby,” Eda said as she and King let themselves in.
They strode their way over to the crib to see the newborn. They peeked in and got a good look at her; she had deep brown hair like Luz, light brown skin, pointed ears, and heterochromatic eyes, with the right one being brown and the left one being gold.
The baby looked up at the owl lady and the diminutive demon and let out a giggle.
“Aww,” Eda cooed. She looked back at Luz, “Nice job, kid.”
Luz cracked a tiny smile, “Thanks, Eda.” Her smile twisted back into a frown though, “Now if only we could think of a name for her.”
Eda looked at her with surprise, “Wait, you still haven’t given her a name.” She then looked over to Amity as she walked back into the room, “I thought you would’ve had an entire list of names ready.”
“No,” Amity said, “so far I could only think of one.”
“What is it,” Luz asked her wife.
Amity rested her hands on her hips and smiled, “Her name should be Alba.”
The baby let out a wail, as if she was voicing her disapproval.
Eda smirked, “Sounds like she doesn’t like that name.”
Amity glared at Eda, “Okay then, what would you suggest we call her?”
“Simple,” Eda raised a finger, “Eda Jr.”
The baby cried out again, surprising the elderly witch.
Amity crossed her arms and smirked at Eda, “Looks like she doesn’t like that name either.”
“How about something like ‘Destroyer,’” King chimed in.
The baby cried out yet again in response.
Luz let out a sigh, “I’ll go get one of our Azura books and see if I can put her down for a nap.”
The baby let out a giggle, catching King’s attention.
Eda groaned, “Don’t start reading those books to her, their flowery language is an insult to witches.”
“Hey, guys,” King exclaimed, “look at this.” He turned around and faced the baby. “Azura,” he said to her, eliciting a giggle from the witchling.
Amity and Luz walked over to their baby and picked her up. “Azura,” Luz said, causing the child to giggle in her arms.
“Azura,” Amity said, making the baby giggle again.
Both of their hearts melted at the sight their adorable, giggling daughter.
“I think she likes it,” King exclaimed.
“Is it true,” Luz asked the baby in an adoring tone, “do you like that name, do you want to be called Azura?”
The baby giggled yet again, confirming their suspicions.
“Then it’s settled,” Amity said, “from now on, your name is Azura Blight Noceda.”
Baby Azura giggled joyfully, as if she was approving her new name.
