Chapter Text
Blondes. The one constant in Yamaguchi’s life. His best friend, his childhood heroes, even his ex-girlfriend. And now, his classmate, who he was supposed to meet in an hour to study. But she wasn’t just any blonde, she was cute. And Yamaguchi was crushing, hard. But he also knew that his suitemate went out with this girl. It was just casual, sure, but that still crosses some kind of line, does it not? Although he did walk in on his suitemate… kissing his other suitemate. Yamaguchi was still confused on that matter.
On one hand he felt he should stay out of Hinata's (his suitemate) life. But on the other hand he felt like he owed it to Yachi (his crush) to tell her that Hinata was making out with other people. But then again she already knew that, she was one of the ones that encouraged him to ask out a second year named Atsumu. But on the flip side, it was Kageyama (Hinata’s roommate) that Yamaguchi had caught with Hinata. Did Yachi know about them too? Did it matter if she did? They weren’t dating or anything, but they went on dates sometimes. God. What the Hell. How did Yamaguchi get caught up in Hinata’s love life? “Tsukkiiiiiiii!” Yamaguchi called, exasperated.
“What?” Tsukishima turned around from his desk.
Yamaguchi was hanging off his bed in the room they shared. “What do I do?”
“Do about what?” Tsukki asked, confused.
“Ahhh. Life.” Yamaguchi rubbed his temples. Tsukki still looked confused. “Okay so basically, there’s this girl.”
“Ah, always a girl.” Tsukki smiled knowingly, though Yamaguchi can’t recall any girls that Tsukishima ever had a relationship with.
“And I think I like her, but …” He sighed. “What if I said she went on a date with one of my friends. But like, they aren't dating. And I don’t think they have any plans to do so. But they might still go on dates?”
Tsukki scratched his head. “Sounds complicated.”
“Wow. Thanks for the help.” Yamaguchi rolled his eyes.
Tsukki chuckled and went back to typing. “Look Tadashi, it’s kind of hard to help you when you just refer to people as ‘this girl’ and ‘my friend’. It’s confusing.”
“Okay well… maybe my friend is Hinata. And maybe this girl is Yachi.”
“Maybe?” Tsukki raised an eyebrow.
“Definitely.” Yamaguchi shook his head. “So what do you think?”
“Think about what?”
“What should I do?” He sat up. “I’m asking for advice here.”
“Look, I would help. But I’m not good at relationships.”
“Have you ever even tried? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you with a girl. Or a guy, for that matter.”
Tsukki stopped typing. “Um… Yeah right.”
Something was off. “Oh Tsukki, that wasn’t supposed to be mean.” He reached out to Tsukki’s shoulder. “I’m sorry if I-”
“It’s fine.” Tsukki pushed him away and rose to his feet. “I uh, actually have something I need to do. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.” He reached for the doorknob.
“Don’t worry about it. But, Tsukki?”
“Yeah?” He paused.
“Don’t tell Hinata that I like her, okay? He would tell me to go for it and that would just make me feel like a bad person.”
“I won’t. Your secrets are safe with me.” And with that Tsukishima left the dorm to go… well Yamaguchi didn’t know where. He did that a lot lately. Running off to places he wouldn’t say where. One day Yamaguchi followed him, but he disappeared into the Nekoma dorm so Yamaguchi just came back to his own dorm.
No bother, Yamaguchi had things to do anyway. Like laundry. He should probably do Tsukki’s too. His roommate is terrible at remembering to do it so Yamaguchi usually just sucks it up and does it for him. He grabbed his hamper and went to grab Tsukki’s. Since when does Tsukki wear so many clothes? “Ah- shit.” Of course he would trip on air. With a sigh he began to pick up all the clothes he dropped. However he paused when he got to one specific t-shirt. I’ve been Tsukki’s roommate for weeks and his best friend for years and I’ve never seen this before. He checked the tag K.T. Huh. Kei Tsukishima. “I guess it is his.” Yamaguchi muttered. Weird. Normally he writes it the other way around. With his given name second. “Whatever, better get this laundry done.”
Yamaguchi carried the hampers into the living area, getting ready to leave when his suitemate's door slammed open. “Kageyama?” His dark haired suite mate stood with his fists clenched and practically breathing fire.
“I’m going to fucking kill him.” Kageyama stomped towards the exit but Yamaguchi grabbed his arm.
“Woah, woah, woah. Slow down Kags. What’s going on?”
“What do you mean? You were there. You saw.”
Oh, so this was about what Atsumu said. Hinata heard him bring up how Kageyama had said the thought of dating Hinata was gross. “C’mon dude, I’m sure Hinata doesn’t believe that.”
“Are you sure? You saw his face.” Kageyama tapped his foot anxiously.
“Well just talk to him, tell him it’s not true.” Kageyama looked away. “It is… not true… right?” Right?”
Kageyama covered his face. “I’m an asshole, I know.”
Yamaguchi sighed. “You can say that again.”
“Hey, you're not exactly good at this thing either.”
Yamaguchi’s eyes widened. “Don’t tell me-”
“These walls aren't soundproof ya know.” Kageyama chuckled. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell Hinata. It’s a shame you like Yachi and not Atsumu though. I don’t mind her dating Hinata, but I can’t stand the thought of him and Atsumu together.”
Yamaguchi chuckled. “Sorry man, I mean, I like blonds, but even I have standards.” The boys laughed. “Looks like we’re both victims of Hinata’s chaotic love life, just for different reasons.”
“Yeah.” Kageyama sighed. “Thanks Tadashi. If I left in that state, I don’t know what I would have done.”
“No problem, man. And if you ever need to talk, I’m here.”
“Thanks.” Kageyama held out his hand and Yamaguchi shook it in good faith. Kageyama went back into his room. Except less angry now. At least Yamaguchi could help one person.
He sighed, picking back up the laundry. “And now I tackle this hurdle.”
