Promptober Day 4: Villain

Loki has been in love with you, Sif's sister, since childhood. He accidentally puts you in peril, does he get the chance to tell you how he feels?

Work Text:

If he was supposed to be all bad, why was he the nicest boy you’ve ever met? You were a guard at the castle, the younger sister of Sif. You fought alongside her and the warriors three to protect Asgard. When you weren’t fighting though, you found yourself in the castle garden. Odin was strict, but Frigga was not. She would often tell you to go take your breaks there, she knew how much you loved it. She also knew though, how much Loki loved it. You would often spend your breaks with him among the flowers. You two actually became quite good friends. Odin didn’t approve of this, but you overheard Frigga telling him to let you two be. You were a good influence on him, but Odin feared that he might be a bad one on you.

As you grew older, your romance blossomed, though neither of you would admit it. His crush on you ran rapid, but he never said a word about it to you. He always kept you at an arm’s length. That was until the night his mother was killed, and you almost died.

You knew you weren’t supposed to go see him, but you also couldn’t help yourself. Frigga gave you a silent nod when you ran into her in the hallway. You were in a long, gorgeous, green dress. Thor insisted you have the night off to celebrate with everyone else, you were now an avenger after all.

But you just couldn’t keep yourself away from Loki. You snuck down into the prison on your way to the party. He was slumped over in his cage. The space between you was full of sparkling gold energy. You knew you couldn’t get through, but god, how you wanted to. It was your first time seeing him since his sentencing. He looked absolutely miserable. “Loki.” You called quietly.

His head shot up instantly at the sound of your voice, but by the look in his eyes, he didn’t really believe that it was you. “You’re not really here. You’re just in my mind.”

“Loki, please. It’s really me. We don’t have much time. I just wanted to see you again.” He seemed to snap out of it. He stood up and walked toward you.

“What are you doing here? Do you know what Odin will do to you if he finds out?” Loki did have a point. At his sentencing, Odin said that he wasn’t allowed to see you or his mother again. Though Frigga would not risk going directly against Odin’s wishes for Loki, you would. “Why have you come?”

“I miss our walks in the garden.”

“What?”

“I miss the days where we could just spend an hour meandering through the garden together. I miss a time before we had to wholly grow up. I miss a time before I had to grieve your death. I miss you, Loki. I need to know why you’ve done this. Why didn’t you reach out to me for help after everything with Thor? How did you get yourself here? I could have been there for you.”

Because if I involved you, I would have risked losing you for good. I could have gotten you banished or killed.

“Because I didn’t need your help.”

“Well clearly, you needed something. You ended up getting caught.”

“I didn’t want to get you involved there would be too much at risk. I thought I could do it alone. Besides, you would have tried to stop me. Go, y/n. Before someone catches. You’re obviously off to some kind of party based on your outfit. You should get there before anyone realizes you’re missing.”

“You’re leaving so much out. Please Lo-”

“I’m done talking. I’m sorry, y/n, but this is for your own good.”

You huffed and spun on your heels to face away from him. He was always snappy and snarky, but this felt different. It felt like he was forcing it to get you to leave. You didn’t want to go, but he had a point. If someone noticed you were missing, you’d have bigger problems on your hands. “Goodbye Loki. I’ll leave you alone from now on.” That was a lie and you both knew it.

It wasn’t long into the party before things went south. Someone had broken into Asgard looking for the stone, otherwise known as Thor’s girlfriend Jane. You, Frigga, and Jane were in a bedroom. You stood between Jane and Frigga and the door. You were the room’s first, really only, line of defense. You had your dual swords out in front of you, crossing in an x pattern. You had fought in many battles, but you had never done so alone. Frigga could feel your nervousness, “It’s going to be alright, y/n.”

“I wish Loki was here.”

“I know you do, I can sense it in you, but you’re a strong warrior all on your own. You can protect us yourself.”

You nodded your head. You felt like you were going to go into a panic. You had never been in charge of something so important, with life or death consequences. It wasn’t long until the Dark Elves broke in. You fought off and killed as many of them as you could, but there were too many. You were stabbed in the side and fell to the ground. You could feel everything happening around you. It almost felt like slow motion. No matter how hard you tried to force your body to move, you couldn’t get up.

Frigga picked up a sword as well, in an effort to protect herself and Jane. You watched in horror, unable to do anything as she was killed in front of your eyes. You screamed out, but it didn’t even sound like your voice. You had blood in your eyes from a hit to the head you a taken before going down, everything was tainted. You forced yourself into a sitting position as Thor came into the room and killed the elves that hadn’t escaped. “Thor,” your voice was broken, “I’m so sorry. I tried to protect them I did. I-”

Thor pulled your body into him as he comforted you. “It’s alright. Y/n this isn’t your fault. I need you to calm down and breathe with me. You’ve been badly injured and we need to get you help.”

Jane ran over from the corner that she had been hiding in. “She’s lost a lot of blood. She’s been down maybe four or five minutes. She needs medical attention as soon as possible if she’s got a chance at living.”

Thor called out for help, but no one seemed to be answering or coming toward you. “Can you move?”

“No.”

Thor sighed and picked you up as carefully as he could. “I’m going to get you to help, Lady Y/n. Stay with me.”

Loki was beside himself when he found out what had happened. Odin had no intention of letting Loki see you after all that he had done, but Sif, Thor, and Jane had a little more heart. You were patched up, but in poor shape and hadn’t woken up yet. They took Loki to your quarters and his heart broke at the sight. You were visibly weak and didn’t look far from death. “What did they say?” Loki asked.

“The staff isn’t sure how well she’ll recover. She’ll live, but her mobility may be decreased,” Sif explained.

“Do you mind if I have a moment?”

Thor huffed. “If you try to escape-”

“I’m not going anywhere brother, you know that.”

“What’s going on?” Your voice was soft.

Thor and Jane left the room, they took a reluctant Sif with them. “It’s okay now Darling, you are safe.”

“Loki?” you asked quietly.

“Yes, it’s me. I’m so sorry, y/n. This is all my fault.”

“It’s not. Only the person who stabbed me is to blame.” Loki sighed. He sat down on the edge of your bed and gently held your hand. “I will avenge you.”

“There is nothing to avenge Loki, I am not dead.”

“But you got hurt. You could have been killed.”

“Yes, while that is true. I wasn’t killed. I am right here with you. I love you, Loki.”

“I love you too, Darling. Get some rest. I’ll be back when you wake up.”

“Where are you going?”

He leaned down and gently kissed your forehead. “To avenge you and my mother.”
