Work Text:
His legs went limp as soon as his eyes lay on the sight before him. Fitting for a puppet marionette held by strings. With the two's love holding his.
Mona was stabbed and is bleeding. It seemed as if it happened quite a bit ago as she no longer breathes. Fatui surrounding her body and blood stained in one of their sleeves. Though he can't even really see them. He can only see her.
He crawled to her. Checking her wrist and neck for her heartbeats.
Finding himself calling for a response "Mona?"
There was no response so he continued calling.
"Idiot?"
"The sky is true girl?"
"Love?"
"Dearest?"
"Renowned writer of the astrology section of Steambird?"
"Great astrologer?
"Master?"
No answer...he called for all the names he called her and the ones she wanted to be called.
He kept at the master.
He finds irritation in her lack of response. "Hey if you keep at this I'm going to kill you one day, you know?".
Even while knowing why she won't ", stop being so stubborn you airheaded stupid pRIDEFUL IDIOT!!", he yelled.
"RISE AND DIE!!" , he yelled once more.
No response. He knows... and it's starting to settle in. His hands are shaking as she shooked her shoulders to rouse her sleep. But she does not wake.
He finds himself laughing. He should have heeded the orange haired idiot in his words... "The Tsaritsa won't allow it you know? She knows it would lead us to leave the fatui and while we're still one be useless as being one." He said voice trembling, nose sniffling as he stared at Scaramouche holding his lover's dead body. The brown haired archon whose eyes were once open filled with yellow light as his hair did. Now having none.
He laughed hard at his annoying pupil at then, at his despair. During that moment though he continued to hold his gaze at Scaramouche with eyes filled with knowledge as if he knows him more than he does. "One day you'll know of this pain too."
Scaramouche irritated with his arrogance then struck him with the highest voltage of lightning he can manage with his catalyst. But of course... the idiot survived and managed to hold his gaze while so.
Another memory flashes... one of his other annoying fellow harbinger. The platinum blonde haired girl cries without stopping. They were doing a mission together and while they were wrapping up she suddenly started to cry. She was his pupil and under his guidance by the Tsaritsa's order to teach.
The girl stared at the two pair of bodies that embraced each other. They were killed by their henchman. All according to their mission and orders of course.
They were a pair of lovers. One belonging to a guild in Natlan that hindered the Fatui's actions.
He kicked her in his annoyance and asked why she was crying.
She replied that it reminded her of Rostam. The way the man smiles in comfort with his lover was like how he did.
He tsked at her stupid thoughts and beaten her up saying that she was stupid. While doing so however she said as if knowing himself more than him ", if you find it stupid don't be like me. Don't be in love with someone or fall in love with someone."
Before that time he actually liked his stupid pupil. She often praised him, and knew how he worked. But from that moment, he hated her more and more. He beated her senselessly that day. How can she dare to know him more than himself.
He even hated to beat or acknowledge her but the stupid archon he now follows commanded to teach her. So he did...
Although she cried a few more time after that in their fewer and fewer missions. She also had the same eyes as that moment, as arrogant it was.
Though it was no arrogance... they did knew him better. He was a puppet waiting for someone to turn him human. From the time they spent together for work perhaps they learned of this and came to these words of advice for him. As a fellow lonely villain.
He did like them atleast in the depths of his heart from the inside. He could relate to them. He even was somewhat kind enough to give solid advice to the Fair Lady back before the incident.
Try he did to deny what he knew even back then inside. Through countless acts of sadism he put them through. To continue to try to act to know better.
Before he knew or perhaps he did once again. He thought of her.
He definitely didn't like her, and most of all loved her in the past. Mona stopped his assassination of Aether.
Act haughty and believed the stars in her little world were true. Had a sharp tongue filled with criticism and hatred for the fatui, and him consequently too.
But then the traveler came. Destroyed his pride for a moment by making him lose in battle and destroy his plans.
Learned of his past from the one who made him, and with sugar coated words established a connection. Which led to him giving him gifts, and be able to invite him to his adventures. He then worked together with her. Albeit, didn't actually do so unless in dire need to do so. But they eventually did.
She learnt of his past too. Guessed his motivations.
He wasn't willing to speak with her. So she talked about herself. He didn't listen at first, and she knew. He rebuked her many times before so obviously he didn't want anything to with her. Lightning almost finding her sometimes but mainly lead to just her hair standing from static.
But then he did...he started to do so. She saved his life once, and ever since she started telling her tales she fought with anyone who badmouthed him.
She told. How the fake sky and the prophecies one can create from it led her and her 'old hag' to a master-pupil relationship. It was a similar relationship in a way to him and Rosalyn. But they genuinely disliked each other more than they connected through the Fatui.
Eventually he found himself amused of the stories she told of the patheticness of the mistakes she did while experimenting. Finding himself lost and annoyed from her passion of the stars.
They soon hanged out with people from their adventures outside from the time spent with the traveler. They hanged out with just the two of them too.
He eventually told her of his adventures with the traveler with different parties not including her. Started to tale her to meals so she can finally eat well somewhat.
Her cute expression while eating, and her taking a mile when given an inch when it comes to ordering.
She even once asked to make him pay for her rent. Which lead to her shocking him.
She ended to the care of the chief alchemist then. Apparently she was using hydromancy to travel and had water drops left in her outfit causing the incident.
He was worried, and realized how important she was back then. Maybe it was due to jealousy of Albedo or her smile while saying she was alright with all its sweetness. He confessed. He didn't know when the feeling he had popped in and grew but it did.
They ended up deciding to date back then, and ended up causing a green haired alchemist faint from her happiness for them.
They kissed and hugged multiple times. Finding warmth in eachother.
He had a memory where he found true stars and sky himself. She said that the sky may be fake but the hopes and dreams they dream were true. Since it came from themselves, and even the Gods wanted to make them have these they couldn't if they didn't want to. The day he found himself feeling like a puppet more than even with blood soaking his hands, she said this and hugged him.
He found constellations forming in his heart that connected the two of them that night. Bloomed from her bright eyes. Because he wanted to... he had a heart and a passionate will too. He felt it and willed it.
He was no longer a puppet or a fatui. Kunikuzushi or Scaramouche. But the one and only him.
The one who was apparently arrogant and hot-headed but warm, smart, and kind according to her.
His heart beated so loud and his lips found the softness of hers. Embracing while standing under the moonlight.
Memories rushed more and....
From the memories that rushed him and the rain which made him recognize that the sight he holds is true....the only thing he can now do is...
He bellowed a shout of a cry mangled with despair. The electric particles that was gathering near him suddenly solidified more. The fatui which was near him realizing what's about to happen ran to get away. But they realized too late....lighting took their lives in a flash. The rain now rained harder as if to manifest what Scaramouche. Lightning continued to strike and surround the two bodies never stopping. Not for a year, not for a decade, not for a century, not for something less of an eternity. The immortal's despair allowed this. For his emotions ran deep, deeper than the ocean and a high that transcends the heavens.
Even the gods of Celestia can do nothing about it. It was a power belonging of an Aenad.
It causes harm to them and their mortals. But they should've known. Their fake sky could not compare to the constellations of the pair of lovers truth.
It was rude of them to give him the love of his life and then take it away.
They didn't realize how one's gift can change into something else when in the hands of a different owner. So the thunder rumbles and lightning strikes.... as the product of this eternal truth. For all of eternity...
