    They were found as children, newborn and baby’s at that. Lan Zhan, the older of the two, was seen taking care of the newborn abandoned fox when they found them.

    The caretakers thought that Lan Zhan would submit to his feral instincts and kill whoever, other than his mate, was in his territory, like any other throw-back alpha would.

    They didn’t account for the fact that Lan Wangji might actually think of Wei Ying as his own mate at such a young age though.

    Wei Ying only ever knew the name Lan Zhan when growing up. Did the dragon ever feel the same?

    Or

    Lan Zhan and Wei Ying are found in the forest and taken into a sanctuary for rare creatures. There, they grow up and face their own feelings.
