" Please ! Don't hurt my children ! " Sally cries .
" Then marry me and I won't hurt your stupid children , a waste of space they are ! " spat Gabe .
" Fine ! " Sally sighs , defeated . She knew this man was not good for her or her children but she did not know just how much .
When Percy is 5 and his sister Ally is 3 :
" You freak ! Pick up the glass ! You are useless . Why did you break it ? " Gabe spat .
Little Percy quietly picked up the glass tears glistening in his eyes . The glass pricked his fingers and there was blood , but he knew he will feel more pain if he did not do it . And mommy will get hurt also . Percy did not want to see mommy cry . So he picked up the glass ( which , by the way Gabe had broken ) and went to calm down his sister , Ally who was crying .
" Shh Ally , don't cry . If you make sound , you will be hurt . I don't want you hurt . Please stop crying , for brother ? Please ? "
" Ally stared at him with wide eyes but stopped crying . Percy rocked her cradle and she slowly fell asleep .
Percy is 7 and Ally is 5 :
" Percy ? " Sally called .
" Mom ? " Percy came running .
" I am going to work , dear . Will you take care of Ally ? "
" Of course ! You don't even need to tell me . "
" Brother ! Where is mommy going ? " Ally asked , her eyes wide .
"Mom has gone to work Ally . Now why don't we go to your room and play ? "
" Yay! " Ally shouted and sprinted to her room .
" You girl " Gabe shouted . " Come downstairs " .
Ally made a move to go , but Percy stopped her . " Don't Ally . And don't come down . Stay here . "
Percy went down . He wondered again , why did my father leave us ? Then we didn't need to be stuck with this monster .
" You ! " Gabe shouted . " Why did you come down ? "
" You will not touch my sister . "
Gabe laughed . " What will you do punk ? "
" You don't want to know "
" Oh ! I do . Hey ! you girl ! Come down ! "
Percy punched Gabe in his gut and held his throat . " Don't you dare ! " he snarled .
Gabe thought . This boy gets possessive of his loved ones . If I attack them , then I certainly will lose . I will hurt the boy . He decided .
" Fine boy ! " Gabe spat . " I won't touch your sister but I will touch you ! " He grinned and punched Percy .
Then his fist connected with Percy 's jaw and a bruise started to form there . He then punched Percy repeatedly , but Percy never screamed . Not even once . Ally will get scared , he thought .
At last , when Gabe was done with him , he just lay there , gathering himself . He wiped his tears and tried to get up but winced . His torso hurt . Ally will be waiting for me , he thought . Mustering up the last of his strength , he got up . He winced at every step . Mom should not know , he thought . If she did , Gabe will hurt her too . At last he reached Ally's room .
Ally rushed at him and threw herself on him , hugging Percy tightly .
" Brother , you were gone so long ! I got ... I got .. "
" Worried ? " Percy supplied . His whole body was aching but he held on to her .
" Yes , that " Ally nodded .
" Don't worry Ally . I am alright . "
Before Sally arrived , Percy had covered all his bruises using his mother's make-up . The visible ones at least . And he made sure to use very little , so his mother would not notice the absence .The day then went as usual , but Percy knew , this would only get worse .
Percy is 9 and Ally is 7 :
Gabe had bet him using a belt today . His back was aching and was scattered with angry , red scars .
He winced as he sat down at the table for dinner . His back was painfully rubbing against the wood of the chair . He was usually good at hiding his pain , but today , it was intense.
After dinner he overheard his mom shouting at Gabe .
" You hit my son ?! " Sally screamed , her voice filled with rage .
" So what ? That freak is a waste of space . At least I can use him "
" You filthy pig ! I will report you to the police ! " He had never seen his mother angry . So , Percy was frozen in his place .
" You will do no such thing ! " Gabe roared .
" Watch me " Sally said as she started to storm out of the house .
Gabe picked up a knife and hurled it at her back . I screamed .
Mom turned . The knife hit her on the hip . I stared .
I was shaken out of my stupor when I heard Ally coming downstairs . I quickly sprung into action as I covered her eyes .
" Hey Ally ... Listen to me . Mom is hurt . Go to the telephone and call 911 . Tell them the address . And then stay there Okay ? " I said as gently as possible hugging her .
" Yes brother . " She said and rushed out .
Gabe had passed out from too much alcohol . I rushed to my mom .
" Mom ." I whispered .
" Percy .. St-stay s-safe . T-take c-care of Ally "
" Mom ! Nothing will happen to you ! Don't leave us ! Please ! " I said tears cascading in my cheeks .
" I love you sweetheart " Sally said as she passed out .
Percy took her wrist . He sighed in relief . There was a pulse . He heard the ambulance sound . He rushed into it and booked a cab too . He would follow with Ally . She did not need to see Mom in this state .
He went into the house and took Ally's hand . They went into the hospital .
" Doctor ! How is my mom ? "
" Are you Percy Jackson ? "
" Yes "
" Any adult ? "
" No "
" I'm sorry , but your mother is in a coma "
Ally gasped . " What does that mean ? "
The doctor looked at Percy , who nodded indicating that he could explain .
" It means that .. she is kind of sleeping ? and we don't know when she will wake up ..
Percy knew the doctor was toning it down for Ally . He knew that his mother was very near death . She may not even wake up .
A single tear trailed down his cheeks .
