Work Text:
On a hot, sticky August day, teenagers flooded into high school for their first day. They called out to their friends and expressed their disgust with returning to school. But one of the kids was different. He looked scary and everyone avoided him.
This boy, named Jason Dean, was looking for friends, though, and would happily try to join in every conversation his classmates were having. But, they would ignore him and kick him out of the conversation.
JD was sick and tired of being mistreated because of his looks and rumors about him. He wanted something more than the jerks that lived in Ohio. So, he left his home and set out far away from the town where he was born.
He soon came across a town, where he stayed for about four months. He was ignored at school, which was fine by him because he didn’t want to talk to them anyways. But there were these girls, named Heather Chandler, Heather Duke, and Heather McNamara, who bullied him terribly. They bullied everyone else too, and JD was getting sick of it. He eventually became closer and closer with the Heathers, much to his disdain, but at least he was safe from bullying.
The Heathers still bullied other people, and JD ignored it. Well, he ignored it for a while anyways, before he was close to his breaking point. He went to a party with the Heathers, which didn’t go well at all. He was kicked out of the group, which he would have been fine with, but there was something much worse than being a nobody. Being an ex-somebody.
He went to Heather Chandler’s house in the morning to grovel for forgiveness. She made him go downstairs to make her a hangover cure and to get her Corn Nuts. He got to the kitchen when he had an epiphany. He’ll feed her drain cleaner! She’ll die! Thus ending her hangover! He poured drain cleaner in a mug and quickly made his way back upstairs.
After Heather Chandler died, JD forged a suicide note and rushed out of the house. He thought he made her sound a lot nicer in the note than she actually was. JD didn’t feel safe staying in the town after the murder, so he ran away. Again.
JD finally came to another town. He stayed there and enrolled in school. This school was actually somewhat pleasant. He met this girl, named Veronica Sawyer. He instantly fell in love with her. She and her friend Martha Dunnstock became close friends with JD, and after a while, JD and Veronica started dating.
There were bad parts, however. Like the pigs in football jerseys that bullied him. Their names were Kurt Kelly and Ram Sweeney. Ram had nothing more to his personality than football. JD had to give Kurt credit, though, for being the smartest guy on the football team. Which is kind of like being the tallest dwarf.
They bullied JD relentlessly. He could fight back to some extent, but the days he left school with a black eye were myriad. JD eventually decided that enough was enough. He remembered that he had brought a gun with him when he had left home. That was convenient.
He convinced Veronica to “prank” Kurt and Ram with him. JD claimed to have something called Ich Lüge bullets that could help them fake Kurt and Ram’s suicide. They would then plant a suicide note exposing Kurt and Ram’s affair, and both of them would be humiliated. So he had lied a little to his girlfriend. They didn’t deserve to stick around anyways.
Later that night, Veronica got Kurt and Ram to come to the graveyard. They miraculously came, looking for Veronica to give what she promised them. JD shot them and a few minutes later, Veronica realized that they weren't just unconscious.
Veronica was furious, but she had no choice but to keep quiet about killing Kurt and Ram, otherwise she’d get in trouble too. She broke up with JD, and something inside him snapped. He ran away for the third time.
He found another town. He reluctantly enrolled in the local school. It wasn’t like this one was any better. Rumors were spread, something about him being a serial killer, which... wasn’t exactly false. He was bullied relentlessly for it.
He’s done. JD... was done. He’s endured so much stuff, just to run away and feel all of it all over again. He still had the gun. And he was going to put it to good use, if it was the last thing he did.
On a cloudy Monday morning, JD had a small smile on his face for the first time in a long while. He skipped class and waited until twelve on the football field. JD had always hated football. He was about to start to head into the building when he paused.
Maybe… he was wrong. Sure, the people he had met were dimwitted and atrocious, but he was the one who had killed them. He was the one who had played God. He thought of Veronica. He had been the one to ruin their relationship.
He slowly held up the gun. He wasn’t God. He never would be. He thought of Veronica once again. They weren’t God. They had no reason to kill Kurt and Ram. And Heather Chandler… Maybe she was just on her period… all the time. Oh God… What has he done? He couldn’t take it anymore. Only one person would die today.
The afterlife was weird, to say the least. JD had been walking around and hadn’t seen anyone. He finally saw a glint of white ahead. He approached it. It was a fellow ghost. The ghost seemed to have seen him as well.
“ Catcall , dang, you’re a pretty boy. One of the only people I’ve seen have a glow up after death,” the ghost said dreamily.
The comment took him by surprise. He was… beautiful? He was always called ugly but now he was… pretty? He had never realized that he could become beautiful after all. After everything JD had been through, he had finally found solace among the dead.
Fin.
