Catra dashed through the halls of Brightmoon, swearing to herself the whole time. She fucked up big time. She tried to remember the castle’s layout in her head, looking for things to mark where she was. How the fuck did she still not know how to get around this place after living here for so long? Suddenly, she saw her destination and slowed down to catch her breath, before opening the door to Glimmer’s room.
“Hey, Catra! What took ya so long?” Glimmer asked, smiling as Catra sat between her and Adora, saying hi to the other princesses too. Earlier that day, Glimmer had invited them all to a small party in her room, not for any special occasion but instead to just have fun for a night.
“Remember that ‘short nap’ i was gonna take? Turns out my body decided to rebel against me and made it a long as fuck nap.” Glimmer giggled, causing Catra’s heart to skip a beat. She and Glimmer had been close friends for 5 years, and Catra had liked her for 4 of those years, but she could never build up the courage to tell her. Catra was brought back to reality when Adora started talking.
“So, wanna know what we’re doin?”
“Looks like spin the bottle to me.”
“It’s not just any spin the bottle, it's truth or dare spin the bottle!”
“Wazzat?”
“OK, OK, so, I just want to say this was my idea before I explain.” Glimmer piped in, subtly bragging. “So somebody spins the bottle, and whoever it lands on asks them truth or dare. It proceeds like normal truth or dare, BUT you can veto it by kissing the person the bottle landed on. Not the most complex game but I thought it would be fun!”
“Sure sounds like it.” She turned to the other princesses nearby. The group consisted of Mermista, Perfuma, and Scorpia, taking note of Scorpia and Perfuma’s respective light blushes and small smiles. “So, anything fun happen yet?”
“M-Mermista dared Scorpia to kiss her crush, and, well…” Perfuma answered, causing the two to blush a little harder. Mermista just gave a slightly amused smile.
“Oh hell yeah!” Catra shouted, giving Scorpia a supportive punch on the shoulder.
“T-Thanks, wildcat.” She rubbed the back of her neck.
“So, what about you two?” Catra asked, regarding Glimmer and Adora after sitting back down.
“Adora dared me to do a flip off of my bed. I stuck it like a pro!” Glimmer responded, a confident smile covering her face.
“Ehhh, I wouldn't say stumbling and nearly faceplanting is ‘sticking it like a pro’, Glimmer.” Mermista chimed in, stretching her hands above her head as she laid down.
“Shush, Mermista!” Glimmer whisper yelled, as Mermista just shot out a thumbs up before letting her hand lazily fall back down.
“Anyways, why don’t you give it a shot, Catra? We’ve all gone once already!” Glimmer shot her a smile.
“Sure, why not.” She said as she spun the bottle, intently staring at it to see who it would land on. The bottle started slowing down, before eventually landing on…
“Oh hell yes.” Glimmer said, seeming pretty pumped about this. “Truth or dare?”
“Dare. you already know most of my funny stories, so.”
“Pffft, what, no deep dark secrets none of us know about?” Adora said, a knowing smirk on her face, drawing out a glare from Catra. Adora was the only person to know about Catra’s long-standing crush on Glimmer.
“I dare you to kiss the person the bottle lands on next. I’ll even offer you my closet if you want some privacy.” Glimmer gave a playful wink at that last sentence.
“Hm, simple enough. Deal.” Catra said, putting on a confident voice. Part of her hoped it would land on Glimmer, but that probably wasn’t going to happen. after all, what were the odds it would just so happen to land on her cru-
The bottle landed on Glimmer.
Catra’s brain felt like it was short-circuiting for a solid 5 seconds. All she could do was look at the bottle, trying to process what was happening. Was this real? Was she dreaming?
“Y-You don’t have to if you don’t want to, Catra.” Glimmer meekly said, snapping Catra out of her shocked silence. Glimmer couldn’t bring herself to look at Catra, twiddling her fingers.
Despite her rapidly beating heart, and the blush covering her face, she built up the courage to get up, grab Glimmer’s arm, and lead her to the nearby closet, trying to ignore the ooos of their friends behind them. Glimmer followed her without hesitation.
“D-Dares a dare, sparkles.” She said, looking back at Glimmer. Her face was redder than earlier, and redder than Catra had ever seen it before, wearing a surprised expression. Catra quickly turned back as her blush grew deeper. When they got into the closet, she closed the door and leaned against one of the walls.
The closet was a decently spacious walk-in closet, but they were still pretty close. Neither of them could build up the courage to look at the other, them both sitting in awkward silence for a few seconds until Catra couldn’t take it anymore. Clearly, neither could Glimmer, because right as Catra tried to say something, Glimmer suddenly stepped up to her, cupped her cheeks in her hands, and kissed her. After the initial shock, Catra leaned back into the kiss, pulling her in closer as she wrapped her arms around her. When they had to pull apart, all Catra could think about was how she missed the feeling of Glimmer’s lips on hers. For a few seconds that felt like hours, they just stared into each other’s eyes as they caught their breath.
“C-can I say somethi-” They both started to say at the same time.
“N-No, you go first, Catra.” Glimmer said, reluctantly pulling away. Catra sighed, trying to steel her nerves for what she was going to say.
“Alright, Glimmer. I… I think I’m in love with you. Pretty sure I have been for years. I never could get the courage to tell you before, and…” Catra began, but suddenly stopped when she heard Glimmer giggling a bit. A surge of anxiety shot through her veins.
“S-shit, i shouldn’t have said that, sorr-”
“N-NO! No, it's fine, I shouldn't have laughed, I’m sorry.” Glimmer said as she took a step closer to Catra. Catra let out a sigh of relief, the tension she felt relaxing a little.
“I-I was laughing because, uh, I feel the same… I’ve had a crush on you for years too, but I didn’t think you felt the same. I didn’t want to jeopardize our friendship, so I just… never brought it up until now.” She takes another step closer and wraps her arms around Catra, who, after a second, hugs her back. “I thought you’d get uncomfortable if I told you and it would ruin our friendship.”
“Well, it wouldn’t have. Unless you count dating as ‘ruining a friendship’” Catra joked, trying to lighten the mood. It looks like it worked, as Glimmer gave off a giggle before responding.
“Haha, yeah…” She pulled back to look Catra in the eyes, a hopeful look on her face that made Catra’s heart melt. “Do you really want to…?”
Catra responded by pulling Glimmer in for another kiss, and she happily reciprocated.
“Of course I do, dumbass. Can’t say no to a pretty face like that, after all.” Catra booped Glimmer on the nose and smirked, her confidence coming back. Glimmer burst out into laughter, making Catra follow suit.
“Oh, I swoon!” Glimmer replied, dramatically holding a hand to her chest, and lightly flicking Catra on the nose.
“Wow, I try to be nice one time and this is the thanks I get? Being violently assaulted like this?” Catra followed up, both of them snickering like mad.
“Ok, we should probably leave before the others get worried.” Glimmer grabbed Catra’s hand.
“Yeah, let’s go. Don’t want Adora thinkin I died in here.” Catra squeezed Glimmers hand as she giggled. They opened the door and walked through, seeing their friends surprised at them now holding hands, except for Adora, giving them a supportive smile, and Mermista, who once again simply shot out a thumbs up after looking at them.
