But to ensure the temporary peace, to ensure that neither side went back on their word…the Fire Nation demanded an exchange of high-value prisoners.
“Wards,” Bato reminded him. “That character means ‘ward’. ‘Ward of the crown’.”
The semantics made no difference to Hakoda. It still meant his son would spend his next seven years in the Fire Nation.
OR
A treaty between the Fire Nation and the Southern Water Tribe sends Sokka to Caldera and Azula to Wolf Cove, where they grow up as wards. Culture shock and chaos ensues, but the peace agreement holds.
Until an Agni Kai and an Avatar throw everything into jeopardy.

Mira was just trying to get drunk—letting off some steam at the fact that she was in love with her best friend, another Alpha. It was wrong—her parents would hate her for it, society would hate her for it—but she couldn't help but feel attracted to Zoey's soft features. The way her smile lit up the whole room. She loved her, but there was no way Zoey felt the same way.
Mira was drowning in her sorrows when someone pulled up beside her—a purple-haired beauty. She was so gorgeous that Mira was momentarily at a loss. The woman didn't seem to notice her at first, and it allowed Mira to take her in—the long flowing hair, the intricate twisting tattoos that curled around her body, seemingly all over. Mira wondered how far they led. She wore high-waisted pants and a white button-up with the top half completely exposed, showcasing more of those delicious markings. When Mira got to her face and saw striking eyes staring back at her, equally taking her in, she felt like a mouse caught.
